Hello...if you're reading this, welcome to my .org profile, it's a pleasure, I'm sure. My name is Ben, I like AMVs. I got into the hobby back in 2006, on a whim, days after I started my first year of college, and I never looked back. AMVs have changed my life in numerous and awesome ways, primarily through the people I've met on this site and at cons. I'm indebted to this website for that, and for giving me a creative outlet that I enjoy. AMVs are a huge part of my life. I cannot overstate that simple fact.
As such, I've become more and more interested over the years about the more "meta" aspects of the community, as well as its history and development. To this end, I am currently working on a huge project to essentially categorize as many AMVs as I can to allow large-scale data analysis to take place. Basically, I want to create a giant spreadsheet that can be mined for almost any piece of data you could want on a given video. When enough videos are entered, ideally, meaningful analytics can be run to learn something about the measurable ways that AMVs have developed over the years. This is called the AMV Genome Project, and more details regarding my goals and methodology can be found in this thread (note: thread may be locked by the time you read this). If any of this seems interesting to you, you can always find the up-to-date project files in this FTP directory. And feel free to PM me with questions.
Other than the Genome Project, I also maintain a blog that I update fairly regularly with observations, recommendations, and general thoughts relating to AMVs (and occasionally other interests of mine).
As for my own videos, they're okay, I guess. In the interest of not setting expectations, I'll let you discover them on your own, if you feel so inclined. Just stay away from like the first year's worth of videos that I released and you should be good to go. Mostly. Hey...I s'pose I should update this, since I haven't for almost a year...
Anyway, I don't have much to say about myself. I'm 20, in college, studying physics (astronomy is my area of interest), and love to make and watch AMVs. When it comes to how I edit, I tend to spend little time on my videos (as in, less than 15 hours) and my videos are usually very simple in terms of effects. Just because I don't put a lot of time into my videos doesn't mean they lack effort...there's usually lots of thought and meaning behind their arrangement, so...yeah.
Besides editing, like I said, I of course love to watch videos. I also really like to pimp out videos and editors I think deserve it, whether they get their due attention from others or not. So allow me this opportunity to plug my "homepage", which is nothing more than a Freewebs page that contains the video information for all my videos as well as a blog which I use to make recommendations for videos or editors that I think deserve it.
