[average 119.3 of 231962 opinions; standard deviation 432 ] - Profile: Well I certainly don't feel old, but at, um, 40, It looks like I'm a little longer in the tooth than a number of people on the org (except you, Vlad). How many of you grew up on Speed Racer? How about black and white Astroy Boys on NBC? No? Damn!
I got into anime mostly through Ghibli works but I end up watching and enjoying a fair amount of shoujo and other odd things (Fantastic Children, Gankutsuo, Planetes) along with my wife Rain and now thirteen year old daughter, Morgan. One of the pleasures of raising the next generation of otaku is that my kid will now introduce me to new series as well as music.
Due to my slowness at editing as well as other demands on my time, like oh, a job, a house, parenting, foster parenting, etc. I don't have a great output rate. In fact I've made only about a dozen amvs since I started in 2000 - and that's including little clips for multi editor projects. My videos often speciailize in showing older anime such as Osamu Tezuka or pre-Ghibli work of Miyazaki and Takahata.
Some people have called me "the king of old school" which is kind of odd because while I use more classic sources, my style, while not terribly flashy, is not exactly just straight cuts and fades like in the two VCR era of editing. Oh well.
Although I'll probably never make hugely popular amv's, being a bit out of the mainstream of the fandom, I've still managed to pick up a few awards here and there, and a number of people do seem to enjoy my work, especially other amv creators or old-time fans, and even non-anime fans. Because of that I feel encouraged to keep going and try new things. Who knows, maybe I'll even do a comedy again someday....
