Originality
----------
I base this on several factors: the AMV style, the song & anime combination, and the presentation.
Visual
----------
I enjoy watching AMV at the highest resolution possible, preferably full-screen. In this way, one is able to appreciate the individual nuances throughout video.
Sound
----------
Based upon the overall quality of the song itself. Usually given a high score unless: the quality is poor the or the original anime can still be heard in background.
Synch
----------
For me this is a combination of the scene selection, pacing of video with song, and how the lyrics play off the video and vices versa.
Lip
----------
Effects
----------
Are they flashy, just for the sake of being flashy or do they serve a greater purpose to add something that otherwise would not have been there without them.
Effort
----------
This is hard to determine. However, for starters I examine how detailed it looks. Does it look like the creator tried his/her best, based on previous works and the AMV itself. For example, I have seen some AMVs where the creator clearly put a lot of effort into parts of the AMV, but then not so with rest of the AMV.

Please note: Replies for opinions I give are greatly appreciated. Let me know if I missed something or didn't understand what you were trying to express through your AMV.
