Creative Titles, why none?

IMHO, the title is just as important to a piece of work as any edits, song choice, effect, etc. It just rounds out the whole package. It's sorta like getting a cool christmas gift that was unwrapped - yes, you got something cool, but there was no wraper that tantilized you to what it was.
Not that the lack of a 'creative' title prevents me from watching an AMV, it's just the pretty package that I miss.

Bah... people just don't appreciate the splendour of simplicity (oo.. pretty words)
*cough*
Anyway. The simple reason of why I mostly use the song name as a title is because I like it that way. I try to make the music fit the anime and when I succeed doing it then most of the times the title of the song also describes the AMV very well. If the song title doesn't fit the feeling of my AMV, THEN I try to make alternative title as the title of the AMV.
Examples:
my Gunslinger girl AMV - Some of you might have seen this. The song title "La Noyée" AFAIK/IIRC means "to drown" or "drowning". Those of you who have seen it know that the AMV itself is about something completely different. Same thing with Lunar Gravity (see banner).
Baby Chase - Self-explanatory. IMO Ska a Go Go would suck as a title.
..and let's not look into HAMVoMiBDa. It's completely different matter.
..please.

For this topic you probably should have asked "Where are the creative title's" not "Why none?" cause they are out there.
Me, I always stress about what I'm going to name my next amv and spend a bit of my time working over the name to the AMV's I like. The results are not always that great. Take "The Real Keysor Soze". Its just a spin off of the title "The Real Slim Shady" yet Eminem has nothing to do with my AMV as its based off the Usual Suspects audio trailer and the anime 'Monster'. As to how I got that title, I just wanted something that could display the outright importance and absurdity of that name. A bit comical yet serious, somewhat like the trailer and I thought of an Eminem title to give it of all things.
Is that a good name for the AMV.. it better be. Thats the name its been given.

One editor I know thinks its silly to name a video after anything other than the song title. I disagree, but there's people to think that.
On the other hand, I tend to find a lot of titles which deviate too much from the song title/lyrics to be rather silly. Then again, I'm the guy who named one of his videos Self-Titled

I have no idea how to use this new forum.

I think that the whole idea of titling AMVs is kind of pointless, and seek to demonstrate this wherever possible. As a shorthand it's okay, but most of the time people will remember music or anime source in preference to the title. I refer to all my own works by serial number when I'm documenting stuff, by source materials when I'm talking about them to other people.
On the other hand, sometimes titles can be interesting and informative. It's just that this basically doesn't happen.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.

I find a problem with both simplicity and being too creative. If it's too simple you look like you didn't try to put any effort into your concept for creativity for the name. If it's too creative then people might not understand the concept at first glance and pass it by. Something inbetween would be ideal but that won't happen a lot.(I think Tomorrow's Not Today might be my best example of a hybrid. I used the song title but it was used to tell the point of the video.) I personally try to think up of a creative name that represents the mood the video has, a theme in it, or point but I am finding that sometimes it's too abstract and people won't know what it is by first glance. (i.e. Lost Lamb, Fate) So simple song title and character might actually be a good thing. At least it would get the attention of the watcher/scanner and they'd have some general idea on what they are looking at.

no, what i was pointing out is that those are good titles. It just happens that they're not english, and i listed them because i was picking ones off the top of my head. Plus those titles would be a lot less effective in english anyway. "Destruction" doesn't have the same ring to it as "Gekimetsu" - plus that and Gekimetsu actually covers a lot more areas and phrases. Multi-taskingstaces wrote:So basically what your saying is give you AMV a title that isn't in English 75% of the time and you'll be good to go!Prodigi wrote:i could list a couple:
Whisper of the Beast
Toushi
Gekimetsu
Jihaku
that's just off the top of my head. There are plenty of creative titles, you'll just find the majority of them aren't titles of linkin ball z videos

Re: Creative Titles, why none?
Ha! I just saw one that was just the name of the anime!Clip wrote:Something I noticed for a while now is that creators here put absolutely no thought into the titles of their vids.
I admit I am guitly of this, but almost every single video I see is simply the title of the song. It seems to really bother me as of late. I'm just wondeing if it bothers other members as much as me?
