Haruhi AMV - On The Edge

Post by Taruto! » Sat Aug 18, 2007 3:58 pm

I uploaded this a couple of days ago but forgot to announce it.. anyway. No snazzy banner this time, just video!

It's a pretty simple KyonxHaruhi video without too many flashy effects, made a few weeks ago in a couple of days for AmeCon, a UK convention. :)

Also, the AR *is* messed up, I am aware and it wasn't really preventable (I simply didn't have the time to mess around looking elsewhere and I don't have all of the episodes used on DVD yet).. curse downloaded RAWs and their messed up ARs! Grr of all grrs.

Otherwise, er.. enjoy?

O_o wered you get your raws from? Every source I've seen or heard of was in the proper aspect ratio, though the quality may be questionable in some ;p

downloading as the Haruhist I am....

(plus, you should be supporting Haruhism and get the DVDs!!! )

Hmm, I can't remember where, it was a random torrent search. They were all DVD rips though, they were just ripped in the wrong ratio :/

(I am getting the DVDs, got the first 2 - I just didn't have the time to wait for them being shipped and ripped when I was making the video, haha XD)

Err...wrong aspect ratio on the RAWs does not mean you can't fix it with AviSynth...just LanczosResize it to a correct 16:9 aspect ratio...it's not very hard :P Luckily, I can make Media Player Classic play it back in 16:9, but still, you should consider rectifying that and uploading a fixed copy to Local, or somewhere else.

And even though I'm a HUGE Goo Goo Dolls fan, I hate this song. I don't think I'll be getting their new CD if this is the shit they're coming out with now.

...All that aside, this was a pretty solid and enjoyable video. It got really emotional near the end, so it was worth sitting through some of the less interesting parts. My main gripes are that there's quite a bit of mouth flap, and too much literal sync throughout the video. All in all though, good, simple editing.

Well, I enjoyed your Kastles of Sand video, so I'll check this out.

Hmm...I enjoyed this, not as much as Kastles of Sand, but I did like the atmosphere of it.

Yay, that was fun to watch. Too bad I missed the emotional charge this might have had on me if I had liked the song..

Anyways, I liked it how you just didn't pout there clips from here and there but used full-lenght scenes in your video. In fact, I liked it enough to give you an extra point :P But, otherwise the editing was a little too simple for my liking..

agreed, that was quite nice. The difference in aspect ratio between some of the sources was a little anoying, but I prefered it overall in widescreen, so I suggest you resize it to the widescreen aspect ratio lanczosresize(704,396) should work.

I didn't mind the song >.> I thought it fit pretty well.

4/5 for me. A nice simple haruhi sentimental vid.

DVD remaster when you finish collecting the DVDs? :O

Whoa... I did a double take when I saw a serious Haruhi video with the Goo Goo Dolls. Almost matches an idea I had a while back - except I had a different song in mind.

Anyway, I like the simple editing here. So many Haruhi videos are completely effects-ridden, which is okay if it's fun and bouncy, but it doesn't always work with sentimental stuff. I think this is a case like that. Too many effects would have killed the story you were going for. There's something to be said for the beauty of simplicity, and this was definitely beautiful.

Some technical stuff that the other folks already mentioned, but I can overlook that for watching the treat of a rare serious Haruhi video. Nice work and keep at it! ^_^
