  • Profile: I started doing AMVs back in 2004 when a friend of mine gave me a copy of Adobe After Effects and showed me some videos by Absolute Destiny. I was instantly hooked on them, and I began teaching myself how to edit. I am not sure what version of the READFAG was up on this site back then, but I know that it has grown immensely by then. Even after reading the version that was on the site back then, most of the style and technique of my editing was self taught. God, the things I used to do to make videos....*shudder*

The machines I've used to edit have evolved over the years as well. My first machine was a cannibalized eMachines desktop with about a gig of HDD space, and probably not even a pentium processor. It took all weekend to render a preview. My latest machine was an alienware computer, and it had quad SLi video cards and a terabyte of RAID space. It would render in real time, and I could scrub the timeline as I edited at full resolution.

Right now, I am not doing much AMV editing. I am asked to do a lot of live action editing for work. Everything from cutting B-roll into news pieces, to creating product demos, to music video promos and yearbook style historical videos. The public affairs office supplies me with the equipment. I don't have an editing rig at home, which is why I am not doing much editing. Well, that, and in 2006 someone introduced me to another nerd hobby...world of warcraft. THAT is the cancer that is killing AMVs.

I still love anime, and I still love editing. I still love all the friends I've made on amv.org. In order to return to this hobby, I think I'm going to need to enroll in some formal instruction in video editing. I just can't keep up with the kids. I do have a lot of fun with it, though.

It is doubtful that the profile information on this site will keep current, but you will probably always be able to reach me at foldenauerm@me.com or mfoldenauer@live.com.
