Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Discontinued Thoughts (stuff I didn't finish!)

Post by dj_ultima_the_great » Tue Mar 27, 2007 6:19 pm

Well, I had four unfinished videos sitting on my hard drive. Two of them I know I want to pick up again, but the other two are definitely dead, never to be finished. So, I decided to stick what I had of those two into a video. This is that monstrosity.

Sorry about the lack of comments on the video page (for those who read that). I gotta leave soon, but I'll put something up when I come back later tonight. Here is the gist of the info:

EDIT: video comments were added, but it's basically just a longer version of what I said here.

Segment 1
Game: Devil May Cry 3
Music: Within Temptation - "Intro"
Notes: just a quickie video that I was working on after I fried my PS2 accidentally and wasn't able to capture for a while. Video quality sucks, cuz this was with my old capture card. I never cared if I finished it or not, to be honest.

Segment 2
Game: Parasite Eve
Music: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children OST - "Tenrai -divinity-"
Notes: I've always wanted to do a PE video, but finding a song seems to be impossible. The reason I quit this video was simple: I didn't have enough of the kind of footage I wanted. The song was dramatic and driving, but I was quickly running out of action-y footage to match it. When I realized that I probably wouldn't make it to the end of the song without half-assing it, I decided to drop the project.

There might be a glitch or two in the footage. This is NOT due to the encode, but rather the file being slightly screwed up after I upgraded my computer and some stuff went wrong. Most of my videos got glitches and artifacts everywhere. These are amazingly clean compared to what happened to my AMV collection.

About the encode... it's XviD for availability. Believe me, .mp4 wasn't going to save that awful DMC3 captured footage anyway. Sorry about the filesize. For some reason, it looks like total ass if I try to go any smaller than that.

I think that's everything. Thanks for watching, should you so choose to do so. ^_^

As a fellow editor, I found this one interesting. I always wondered how many AMVs never made it past the editing stage. It was like watching the deleted scenes on a DVD.

And if you were to ever make a DVD, this would an excellent extra.

I'm downloading this because the poster made me lol.

EDIT: The idea behind this AMV was neat, like MaximoffZero said. I think I liked the first DMC3 segment better than the Parasite Eve one...maybe it's just the music for the PE segment wasn't as interesting, or it didn't seem to flow as well as the DMC portion, but I couldn't get into it.

And the ending made me chuckle

3/5 stars.

Heh, I gotta say that the devil may cry segment was WAAAAY to cliche for my taste ;>

THE RAIN WAS THUNDERING DOWN AS HE SWUNG HIS SWORD TO THE EPIC SOUNDS OF EPIC MUSIC

I thought that the Parasite Eve part was a lot better because it wasn't the kind of scenes you'd normally expect to see to this kind of music. It was more like a good horror/action combo with a pretty interesting storyline.

Same here. I wish more editors would put out little side projects like this, because these are the ones that tend to show where improvement has been made along the way. Learn from your mistakes, as they say.

And yet more innocent people are subjected to my bad sense of humor. Thanks for the comments, guys.

Yes, yes indeed. And that was precisely the way it was meant to be. Sucking every serious moment out of a largely funny game, and throwing it into a little two minute video. My other (bad) idea was to use "Lilium" from Elfen Lied. :O
