I had the same reaction as Sarah when I first read the thread. It sounded like you meant 'average as compared to other people's videos'. Average compared to your own videos is slightly different. If you don't like your average videos, then scrap it or leave it till you can think of a way to make it into something you like. If you still like your average videos, I don't see why you wouldn't like your new average video. Wanting to improve with each vid is natural - it's a sign that the effort you put into bettering yourself is paying off. But I don't think you should feel obligated to improve. As long as you're not taking a big leap back to 'bad' with your new vids, your effort still shows in that you haven't forgotten all the things you learned to reach that 'average' level.
It comes down to what you enjoy about making amvs. If you like competing against yourself, then beware hitting a ceiling after a while. Burn out. If you like making videos, I don't think it matters if every single one is another rung higher on the ladder. As long as they're still on the ladder and not down on the floor, you haven't regressed to a newb. If you're enjoying yourself and you like the finished product, it doesn't matter how it compares to your other vids. It's yours and you had fun making it and you like it.
If you dislike not improving because not improving means you're not putting enough effort into the video and you feel guilty, like you let yourself down, then that's a different matter. Why aren't you putting in as much effort as you feel you should be? Don't like the concept enough? Not in the mood? Burn it to cdr and pick it up later if you want. But don't force it. Go find something you like better. Forcing yourself to do something you usually do for fun makes that hobby a chore. That defeats the purpose of having the hobby. Unless you're a masochist. ;p
