Forum rules
Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

You could probably use the reaction of the Web vs. reaction of the mass media to Stephen Colbert's roast at the White House Press Correspondents' dinner as an accurate model for the ACen 2006 crowd reactions to this video.

Come to think of it, I think the only differences are that articles on my video doesn't come up as the second hit in Google searches for "White House Press Correspondent" and my balls are nowhere near the size of Colbert's. I'm working on those, though.

Oh, and Colbert was way funnier, but I think that's a given.

Since according to the site the video doesn't exist, I'll ask about the reactions, how were they?

Yeah, I noticed that too...and some changes to existing video entries, like adding convention participation, are also not taking effect. Ah well, it'll be sorted out eventually.

When I saw reactions, they were pretty much dead. However, I've heard (from many people) that it was also rather well-received at a different showing of the same contest.

Just the usual risks of attempting comedy when you don't really know your audience, I guess.

Ah, well, with a Trythil amv, Voltaire's "If we do not find anything very pleasant, at least we shall find something new" seems to hold true, and if its a comedy using X, I have great expectations.

I don't think this portion of my psychology class can get much more boring.

Those might come tumbling down when the site gets its act together again :P

The other issue is that audience for this thing is really, really small:

{set of all people who watch anime} intersected with {set of all people who watch anime fansubs} intersected with {set of all people who notice things going wrong with anime fansubs} intersected with {set of all people who have watched X TV} intersected with {set of all people who have watched Angelic Layer}

I've gotta say, though, that this video (moreso than anything else I've done) was a really great learning experience for what does and does not work in comedy. So, in that sense, it was neat.

Damn. Those should not be sets in sets. Whoops, my bad.

I think this is my cue to stop replying to my own posts in my own announcement thread and go to sleep already.

Holy shit. I'm pretty sure I actually fall in all of those sets. o_O I'll be sure to watch this when it's available. So this played at ACen? I guess I didn't stick around long enough to see it. I only saw the first dozen or so videos before my companions (one of which doesn't really like anime or AMVs) got bored and insisted we leave. Anyway, I'll check back and hope the site has gotten the kink worked out.

Heh, that's okay.

I set the "date available" to tomorrow. Hopefully it'll work out.

I thought it was funny, and I was honestly surprised that the rest of the crowd (or parts of it) felt the same way.

You were at ACen? You should've met the rest of the editing crowd.
