Got song... need anime. Strong, smooth, angsty, masculine.

Post by ZaCloud » Sun Apr 17, 2005 7:27 pm

I wish not to give away the song I plan to use... probably a rather big surprise since nobody has used it yet, and I don't wanna jinx that... ^_^;;

But, I will say this: It DEMANDS I make a vid to it, or it'll blow my brains out if I don't at least start brainstorming soon. :twisted:

The problem is, my anime exposure is very limited, and so I cannot find the right kind of anime worthy of it. Here's basically what I need the anime to be:

-Laden with large-scale action sequences, such as majestic creature summons, auras, and/or varying speeds of combat. Stylized and flashy.

-Lots of emotional expression, not just a buncha mouth-flapping and eyebrow-quivering. Angst = good.

-High quality animation and drawing; smoother framerate than average, and not too simplistic.

-Masculine for the most part; gotta have plenty of not-too-girly men to semi-narrate the lyrics' ideas

-Either mystical, samurai-ish, or forest scenes occuring once in a while.
--

The only possibilities I have so far are:
"Full Metal Alchemist"
"Yami no Matsuei (Descendants of Darkness)"

The first, I'm not sure about yet because I haven't gotten to see it all, and don't have it on my computer yet. The second one, well, I frankly don't like the anime, though it CAN be edited into a very cool video. But I don't think my studio will endorse an anime of that nature. :P

(Rurouni Kenshin would be a nice possibility, except I don't have access to it any longer, and plus I don't want to use something that's overdone)

Thanks in advance for reading this far, you get a cookie! :wink: WEEE!

Kenshin and Bebop both come to mind.

Thanks, both of you. ^_^ I already mentioned why I won't use Kenshin. Bebop, doesn't have the type of "smooth" I'm looking for. That's the hip kind, I'm talking kinda like Utena. But more masculine. :P

Mononoke Hime, great suggestion, but not quite enough high-scale action with the energy I'm looking for. Getting close though. :)

It does look very interesting; cute art and neat looking characters. But once more, I don't think the studio wants to do shounen-ai, and they'd look at me funny. ^_^;;

Samurai Champloo might fit the bill nicely. Especially as far as being stylized.

Final Fantasy?

Post by dj_ultima_the_great » Mon Apr 18, 2005 5:50 pm

Well, they're considered anime even though they're actually a series of games, but how about Final Fantasy? They fit many of the requirements you'd like. I'm just not sure if you'd want to use them because of the fact that they are games. Or that they're kind of overdone. You could take clips from nearly all of the games and I think it would still fit.

Hope that helps. Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!

Thanks, and thanks. ^_^ I'll hopefully get to watch Samurai Champloo soon, and I'll see how it is. :)

As for Final Fantasy, once more it's the overdone issue, plus since the usable footage is so limited, it's stuff everyone's seen over and over, thus they lose their potency. Most of the GOOD scenes happen during gameplay and aren't really useable. If only that weren't the case, that'd work great. ^_^

Yeah, the overdone thing I can agree with (well, obviously ^_~ ) but I do have to comment on the 'same scenes over and over' thing.

I don't think that it's a matter of there only being a limited number of scenes - it's just that people only CHOOSE to use certain ones. I've downloaded literally hundreds of FF AMVs, and I can tell you that there are plenty of scenes that I've never seen used before. Either that, or they're used very rarely. This is a good explanation of what I mean. Not only is it an awesome video, but it utilizes many forgotten scenes of FFVIII. Yes, there are some cliche scenes, but the several are rare finds.

However, on the overdone point, like I said, I'm with you. And if that is reason enough for you to omit it, then I'm okay with that.

Thanks for reading my rant. ^_^ As always, Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!

PS: this is just my personal opinion, but I think that if one is a really creative video artist, then one can ALWAYS breathe new life into old clips. You just have to think inventively, that's all. And if your opinion scores are anything to go by, I'm pretty sure you can. ^_~
