Well I too am an art student, and I think he has no basis to apply that statement universally. I'm content with all my work, and I got nominated for most improved at last year's VCAs.

To answer the topic somewhat more seriously than I did before...

I mean, if they thought it really sucked that badly and they were the ones that made it, why should I, as the general public, even bother watching it?

I have several videos that, on afterthought, I wish I had deleted instead of uploading because I now think they suck. So when I put 'this sucks' or 'over here is a much better version of the same thing' in the description I'm hoping that you, as the general public, actually don't bother watching it. If I had the ability to delete these videos off the org I would. Since I don't, I try to discourage people from downloading it.

(Note to admins: if you ever find yourself short a hundred meg or so of space let me know and I'll gladly provide a list of my crap that should be deleted)

Is this a case of false modesty or a slap in the face saying my taste sucks if I happen to enjoy the video?

Am I slapping Naruto fans in the face when I say I don't like the show? It's all a matter of personal opinion and I seriously wonder about someone who would interpret a disagreement of opinion as a slap in the face.

if you're going to offer it to the public, maybe you should let them decide without coloring their opinion of it from the beginning.

In that case what's the point of the description at all? ANYTHING I put in the description will color peoples opinion. Even something as simple as 'this is a dance video to various Ghibli movies' colors their opinion, they're now thinking of it as a specific genre and mentally comparing it to others of that genre.

I think that it CAN be applied in almost every situation. "Yeah, I did a good job, but I can still improve this, this and this". That is what you should say when you watch a video that you made, if you like it yourself. /v\ajin Koji one rookie of the year one year and he didn't even like the video that won it for him. In my oppinion, that's the perfect example. You should never be completely satisfied with your work, because if you just stay satisified, while you may get better, you might not ever reach your full potential.

That's the point I'm trying to make here. People who say "This AMV of mine sucks" say it because they know it's the truth, and I feel that this is what will drive them to improve. That's just my oppinion, anyways.

The reason there's so many DBZ music vids is because it's such a good anime. It's exciting and there's plenty of good fight scenes, making it a perfect choice for an action vid. Also it's one of the longest anime series out there, not including all the movies made of it, so there's plenty of stuff to work with. And while we're on the subject of DBZ, would everyone stop bitching about Linkin Park being used for the vids! The reason this band is used so much is because their songs are so full of energy and they go perfectly with almost every DBZ fight.

First of all, there is nothing more offputting when you go to check out a new music vid and all it's creator can say about it is how bad it is. Let us decide whether it's bad or not, okay?! You just tell us what it's about and we'll let you know what we think when we submit opinions.
Another thing I'm tired of is everyone saying "Oh, this-and-this is over used" or "Oh, everyone does that". Try thinking for a second of why their 'overused'. Phew... Thanks for letting me get all that off my chest. I don't mean to offend anyone. It's just that I wish people would stop focusing on the negative aspects of music vids and just enjoy them. They are supposed to be fun after all.

Yes, but what happens when you reach your full potential? Can you be satisfied then? Can anyone ever reach their full potential? Keep editing, because it's almost entirely certain that there is something better to be made. 'Your full potential' is only an opinion, and likely a flawed one no matter who thinks it.
