The Human Condition - 3 AMVs for the price of 1!
These are essentially 10 year old AMVs that I just got around to finishing recently. You can watch them individually or as one large AMV. They are designed to compliment each other.
Every once and a while I get the itch to make an AMV. This time the fire was stoked when I came across some more unfinished project files much like I did with my AMV from a few years ago "Ebb and Flow". Nostalgia can be a powerful thing and during this pandemic it felt good to embrace that feeling. Even though the result was a dramatic exploration of the human condition in anime form, it still was cathartic for me personally.
I hope these videos speak to you in some way, whether you are going through a personal struggle or just looking for a break in your daily routine.
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Or if you feel so inclined, you can watch all 3 videos together in order here.

The Blade Runner anime is not listed on the site so I can't upload. I'm waiting for an admin to update the anime catalog.

Sorry for the double post, but the anime has now been added and I just uploaded a local copy of Part 3. Enjoy.TheNanashi wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 10:23 pmThe Blade Runner anime is not listed on the site so I can't upload. I'm waiting for an admin to update the anime catalog.

All of these were really good. Parts 1 and 3 were my favorites.
I always love it when editors use slow motion or extra frames to achieve the kind of choppy, slowed down motion that's such a big part of Part 1. It works really well here along with the other visual effects you use to create a very dreamy and surreal feeling that's a visual reflection of the unique textures in the music. Everything works together in this video really well. There are some moments where I feel like some additional motion could have been called for (1:29-1:37, 1:49-1:57), either in the form of extra cuts of some camera pans or something. That didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of this for me, though.
Part 2 didn't click for me quite as well, I'm not sure exactly why because it's operating on many of the same tactics that you used in part 1, and I do like the color manipulation and other visual effects that you use. It's still a good video, but maybe more of a 6/10 than a 7/10, if that makes any sense. Again, I do like the change in speed/framerate, which occasionally causes the motion in scenes to lock in with various micro-rhythms in the song that are otherwise hard to pick up on.
Beautiful and haunting scenes all throughout Part 3, black and white scenes actually feel really appropriate and purposeful here (I have not seen this anime, but looking it up, I think that it's all in color and you made the changes that we're seeing here, correct me if I'm wrong). The ending feels very abrupt.
These were great, nice to have you back.

I really enjoyed your amv triptych! Not just because I'm a massive Radiohead/Thom Yorke fan, but I thought your editing made for a very haunting and chilling experience. I really like this 3-part amv concept, you executed it effectively

In part 1, during the times you mentioned I was going for more of the lyric matching as opposed to beat matching. The lyrics "We think the same things at the same time, We just can't do anything about it." were very relevant to feeling uncertainty, doubt, and fear so I wanted to show the characters experiencing these sensations together and really let their faces tell the story instead of forcing more cuts. It goes solo shots on the bed of each character, then a shot of 2 characters together, then a group shot. It is like the feeling of "thinking the same thing" is expanding to bigger groups of people.
With Part 2, I would be curious to know what you think of my original version since you didn't like it as much as the others. "Version 3" was actually going to be the one I released. But a friend of mine who struggles with severe anxiety told me it didn't convey that enough so I remade it into "Version 4", which is the one you watched. My friend gave the thumbs up on the new one as it made them feel much more anxiety, especially the parts saturated in red.
If you are curious, you can see the previous version here.
For Part 3, you are indeed right the anime is in color and I de-saturated the whole thing. This was a choice I struggled with for quite a while, so I made 2 versions, one in color, and one in black & white. They feel VERY different to me, but ultimately I felt the b&w conveyed more clearly what I wanted. I understand your comment on the ending being abrupt. I let the last scene drag out for longer than I usually do and then kind of cut it abruptly as the dust storm engulfed the scene. Life ends abruptly sometimes, we don't always get the answers or conclusions we want. My ending to the AMV was a way of conveying that.
Here is the color version of Part 3 if you want to see how different they feel.
Anyway, thank you again. I really do appreciate the comments and I'm glad you enjoyed them.
Thank you very much. I guess I'm glad that you found them haunting and chilling? Heh. Any emotional response from my videos is a good thing in my eyes. That means I did my job.SynaesthesiaVideos wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 6:49 pmI really enjoyed your amv triptych!
