This video was originally conceived many years ago(probably 10?). As with my previous video "Ebb and Flow", I had a handful of AMVs that were roughly assembled or halfway complete sitting on an old editing rig. This concept was one of them.

During this time in quarantine I began digging through some old hard drives. I saw a couple folders worth of project files and I got all nostalgic. I reloaded the footage and sequences into Premiere and was curious how much was left to finish. After a few error fixes and clip replacement workarounds I was ready to roll. To my surprise, two of the three videos were probably 40 or 50% done and the third was basically just a song with some random clips scattered about the sequence.

This video was actually done second and was in the roughest shape when I opened up the project file. I believe the original anime I had in the timeline was Jin Roh. Having a 10 year gap made me rethink that choice. I decided to use something I had seen a clip of not too long ago and that was the Blade Runner Black Out short film. I love the Blade Runner movies and their dark neo-noir look. Also the anime was pretty cool looking and had this fatalistic vibe I was going for.

The song is "Like Spinning Plates" by Radiohead, and this piano version is haunting. It was a great way to conclude these three videos and leave the viewer in somber reflection.

After the last video leaves us disconnected and breaking free of the controlling mechanisms in our life, the anxiety and tension turns to relief. The problem is we don't always get the relief we want, sometimes it is something else. It ends up being more of acceptance and we reluctantly trudge forward on the path. It can all feel so cyclical, but at least our eyes are open.

"Death is the road to awe."
