  • MEP madness 2006-11-10 02:12:33 :O

I'm in another MEP! A Rage Against The Machine one - right up my alley! I'm thinking of using Evangelion for my portion, but I don't know yet - and I have a while before I really need to get started on it. The beta doesn't have to be ready 'til halfway through April, and I edit pretty fast. But I want to make my portion of the video stick out - after all, I chose the intro track. Maybe not the best idea, given my experience level, but as I was listening to the beginning of "Testify" I started getting all sorts of ideas. So I had to take it ^_^

Anyway, I think on Sunday I'll start ripping the last episodes of RahXephon so I can get started on my final installment in the trilogy. I kind of want to just get it over with - I'm sick of using RahXephon footage. It really gets boring using the same anime three videos in a row...and I have one more to go...X(

But yeah, in other news, I have to make my Christmas list and I have NO idea what I want to put on it. Don't misunderstand - I know a lot of what I want, it's just most of it is anime, and no one in my family is going to know where to get it or be willing to pay $60+ for a whole series. And I don't want to have to send them online to find it *ahem* cheaper. Maybe I'll just ask for money and buy the anime myself. That's what I'm thinking.

This Saturday I'm going back home and I'm going to pick up The Place Promised In Our Early Days ^_^ I got Voices Of A Distant Star last week, and although I haven't watched it yet I know I'll love it and TPPIOED was made by the same guy. So I'm really excited.

Oh man, and I brought my N64 back from my home too :O I forgot how fun games like Super Smash Bros. (Melee sucked, IMO) and Perfect Dark are. Not to mention The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask (MM is better, but OoT is really close behind). I started a new file in OoT today...my, what fun! I love the N64 Zelda games. Just typing about them makes me want to go play. Unfortunately my roommate is getting ready for bed (rather early, I might add) so I can't really start playing right now. But I want to!

Ok, well, I'm going to go watch some Love Hina now and then go off to bed. Man, I really love that show. It kicks all sorts of ass. Later.

  • SNES is bad for the blood 2006-11-06 17:46:02 The kid across the hall from me really, really, really should not play video games.

He has an SNES in his room that he plays constantly, and even with my door close I can hear him screaming profanities at the TV; less than a minute ago he yelled "Fuck off!" He screams this sort of stuff all the time; "I didn't press that fucking button!", "Oh fuck you!" and "I don't know why I play this fucking game!" are always flying across the hall. Whenever he screams these things, my roommate and I just look at each other and laugh.

I would make fun of him for it, but I fear his retaliation. Apparently he's broken a controller already :/

Ooh..."Jesus! Fucking - FUCK OFF!!!" That's a new one. It's one of my favorites now ^_^

Aahhh...sometimes dorm life has its benefits. Although I'm sure I'll be the same way when I start playing my N64 which I brought from home this weekend. Super Mario 64 is just so damn frustrating sometimes.

    Ok, well, dinner.

    Later guys.

  • People make me sick 2006-11-06 01:43:30 I am losing all faith in humanity.

Although, to be honest, I didn't have much to begin with. But that small amount is dwindling fast. And you know why? Game shows.

Yeah, game shows. And there are two in particular that really just make me mad: 1 vs. 100 and Deal Or No Deal?

For those of you unfamiliar, 1 vs. 100 is Bob Sagat's attempt to reconnect with the relatively large portion of the American population that loved him when he starred in Full House and America's Funniest Home Videos, but was confused by his sudden transformation from family-friendly cheeseball to drugged-out whacko who was selling out his filthy comedy routines. So now he's back on TV in another family-friendly role: playing the host of a game show that's a mix between Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and, I guess, Deal Or No Deal? (which I'll get to in a bit).

Basically, in 1 vs. 100 the contestant gets asked a multiple-choice question, and if s/he guesses right s/he wins money and gets to ask another question. The twist comes in with the "Mob", a group of 100 people who also answer the question, but for each person in the Mob that gets the question wrong, money gets added to the contestant's total. if the contestant gets a question wrong, his/her winnings is split amongst the reamining Mob members.

In all fairness, it's a pretty unique game show. The problem is the contestants are some of the stupidest people on the planet, as most game show contestants are (with the exception of Jeopardy, the only really great game show left). Friday night's episode just put the nail in the coffin, as far as I was concerned. There was absolutely nothing else on TV, and since I have only about 10 channels to choose from and no DVD player, there's little else to do when my girlfriend comes over, short of going out somewhere which is just too much effort most nights. So we settled for 1 vs. 100. There was this lady playing the game, and she reached the second or third question. The question was:

"Which of the following board games allows you to move pieces only diagonally?" (or something to that effect):

    A) Backgammon
    B) Checkers
    C) Chess

Anyone in first grade would know this answer; I don't think we've gotten so far past board games yet that kids don't know how Checkers works. If you can't see where I'm going with this, the lady didn't know the answer. Or, she wasn't *sure* of her answer, to put it the way she did. The irony in all this was that this woman *was* a first grade teacher, and even if you don't know how to play chess or backgammon, you should know how to play Checkers, quite possibly the simplest board game of all time. She ended up getting the question right, but Lord, it was the most pathetic display of game-show-contestant ignorance since that one guy on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? that didn't know that Hannibal crossed the Alps with elephants and couldn't make it past the $100 question.

I also have to rant about Deal Or No Deal?; if you haven't seen at least one episode of this show then you probably don't watch too much TV. Quite simply it's the most popular game show since WWTBAM, and EVERYone watched that.

Basically there are 25 briefcases, each of which holds an amount of money ranging from $.01 to the fabled $1,000,000. At the beginning a contestant chooses a briefcase, hoping it has $1,000,000 inside. S/he then proceeds to choose cases to eliminate. At the end of each round of elimination, a "banker" offers him/her an amount of money with which he will give the contestant to walk away based on the probability of the case holding a large amount of money. Thus, the more high numbers that are left on the board and haven't yet been eliminated, the more money the contestant will be offered if s/he quits.

There aren't any specific instances in this case, but this show really just demonstrates how sickeningly greedy people can be. If I went on that show I'd probably walk off before the banker offered me $75,000. I go on the show for nothing and you want to give me $60,000 to leave? $35,000? Where do I sign? I don't care how much is in the briefcase, if you're giving me free money I'm going to take it.

But people get so greedy that they get practically nothing and actually have the nerve to be disappointed by it. You probably didn't pay money to be on this game show; you had a chance at several thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars, and you're going to cry because you passed those opportunities up?! Give me a break! People would KILL for that chance, and you brush it off because you think you chose the one briefcase out of 25 that has $1,000,000, but instead it has $100. You have absolutely no right to complain.

Guh. People are so stupid. Excuse me while I vent my frustrations in Counter-Strike.

  • Anime-intensive entry 2006-11-03 11:02:37 Hey, you're welcome Yeiweh. Always happy to help out - and for what it's worth, everyone reading my journal should check out Yeiweh's new AMV. It's a good one ^_^

    http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=132215

So I just joined moonie211's Rainbow Cotton Tribute MEP, because there are a lot of tracks and I figure it's only like a 30-second clip that I have until February 1 to edit, so why not? Plus, I've never been in an MEP before so I figure something like this would be good practice. The only problem is that the music clip I'm editing to is really happy (all the tracks are) and I don't really have any 'happy' anime at the moment. Shouldn't be a problem though; I'm always looking into buying more anime, and I'm sure I can come across some good anime with a lighter tone.

Anyway. It's Friday, and I'm going home tomorrow! I like going home. It gets me off of my damn computer and I actually get to go CD shopping and whatnot, because there are no Best Buys or anything within a walking distance of my college, and I'm too cheap to pay bus fare. Plus I wouldn't know where I'm going. So tomorrow or Sunday, I'll go to Fry's and pick up (finally) Voices of a Distant Star. I'm actually really surprised that Fry's even has an anime as obscure as that and The Place Promised In Our Early Days (which I'll get later), but I'm not asking questions - I'm just happy they have them because they're at the top of my Most Wanted Anime list.

So yeah...I'm watching Love Hina on EuToob right now. Not at this very moment, but that's the anime that's been taking up my time recently. I must say, I'm eight episodes into it and it's pretty darn good. It has a very nice balance between humor and drama, and it's a pleasant break from RahXephon. In most cases I'll watch anime on EuToob before buying it, because pretty much the only reason I'd want the anime in DVD form is to make AMVs with. I don't care about the quality when I'm actually viewing the anime; editing is a different matter. And fansubs are accurate enough, plus there's a ton on the Toob so I can quickly expand my anime library.

After Love Hina I'm going to watch Serial Experiments: Lain which I've had on DVD for two weeks now...I like to watch one anime at a time, though, because I barely have enough time for it as it is. I'm excited to watch that. It looks right up my alley. Maybe then I can mix it with Paranoia Agent into one AMV...they seem like they'd go well together.

Ok, well, I think I'll be a-goin' now. I have a lecture in 28 minutes and I have to burn a mix CD for the girlfriend. She's had a really rough week :(

    Later guys.
