  • Three hundred thirtieth entry - Lengthy!Pimp 2007-06-01 19:59:36 Time - 5:31, Noise - muzack for mah Clow segment

I've wanted to do this for a while... pimp videos that I don't necessarily keep in my permanent collection. There are various reasons why I didn't keep these ones - video quality, didn't like the effects, already had too many videos for that anime, good video but I hated the song... lots of stuff. But they all have something unique about them that makes them worth watching. So if you see an anime you know and have a spare moment, check 'em out. Entries will be listed alphabetically by anime.

Took me quite a while to write this up, so I'll end it here. Hope you find a gold nugget in that list somewhere. ^_^

    See you, folks.

  • Three hundred twenty ninth entry - damn bug... 2007-06-01 01:12:38 Time - 11:59, Noise - Nine Inch Nails - "Deep"

Bah. Damn bugs. I had a paragraph written up, and then it got in my face. Somehow, in me waving the thing away, I hit the back button on my keyboard. o_O

Anyway, I didn't edit my FMV segment today, but I did gather all of the source I need for the intro. I'm not actually doing the image work for the intro (I'm leaving that to my best friend, who is much better with Photoshop than I am), but I am doing the video editing afterwards. Consider it a joint thing.

So that's what I got done today. Oh, and I made a few tiny edits to the main page of the MEP thread, but it isn't anything major. I doubt anyone can even see what I changed, which is okay given its non-importance. I'm just a stickler for that kinda crap. Details.

*emo tear* I had four birthday pineapple cookies left, but they molded over. I had been eating a few every day, but they're just so... cakey. It only takes a week or two for them to get mold. So, I took the last two that were away from the mold (and thus okay) and tossed the rest. It was a sad moment.

I finally cleared out all of my stars (I had one from back in November), so I decided to use my newfound main page freedom to do some mass downloading. I'm snagging all of the Local Ai no Kusabi videos right now. (Just going down my "have seen" anime list alphabetically, that's all.)

Well, my downloads are almost finished and its bedtime, so I'm off.

    Nighty night, folks.

  • Three hundred twenty eighth entry - yar... 2007-05-31 00:04:23 Time - 10:54, Noise - Nine Inch Nails - "Burn"

    Ugh. Headache.

Getting past that, I saw Pirates 3 today. It was supposedly a birthday present from my best friend, but since she had already seen the movie two times before taking me, it wasn't much of a special occasion. I really just think she wanted to see it again to satisfy her stupid obsession with those movies. I mean, she didn't even ask about Spiderman 3, which I would also like to see. She just automatically went for Pirates. Kind of irritating.

But it was a good movie. Not as good as the last two had been, but worth it. The main problem with this one is that it doesn't tie up the story well enough. One of the main characters is just kind of forgotten after the climax of the movie. I mean, seriously. What kind of director makes that cut? But other than that, the music was just as good (more variety in this movie, I think), the action sequences were more engaging (they just seemed pointless in the second movie), and certain little details were done better. It has its faults, but I enjoyed the move overall.

Hmm... I think I'm gonna end this entry here, actually. My headache, my desire to read, and the large, creepy spider on the ceiling that I'm positive is just there to annoy me are all telling me to go to bed. So it's to bed I go.

    Nighty night, folks.

  • Three hundred twenty seventh entry - lack of motivation 2007-05-29 17:03:51 Time - 3:16, Noise - the buzzing in my brain

Oh, before I forget: thanks for the birthday well wishes I got a couple days ago. <3

In other news... I haven't edited anything since two weeks before finals. That makes it nearly a month since I've done any editing at all. I really am slacking behind, but I just haven't felt like doing anything. Being at home seems to do that to me. I'll try to edit something today on my FMV segment.

I did start playing Fatal Frame III again yesterday. Did about half the game in one sitting. It's harder than the second game, and a hell of a lot more vague in what your objectives are supposed to be, but I like the storyline. I'd like it better if the story wasn't contained in so much reading and did more like the second game and simply showed cutscenes of events. A picture is worth a thousand words, after all. Why make me read a fourteen page document about the lullaby the handmaidens sang when you can just *show* me the handmaidens singing the lullaby? It's just common sense.

I don't know... sometimes I think that Tecmo was just skimping on presentation for this game. It's easier for them to put a document in the game than it is to spend money animating a cutscene. Also, many parts of the game start with a few seconds of talking and then reset into a text conversation. Like they didn't want to bother with paying voice actors more money to speak more. Doesn't make sense to me, either, because the second game got very high ratings. It's not like they didn't have every reason to try even harder with this game. They were riding on the coattails of a previous victory, so to speak.

I still love the Fatal Frame series, though. It does something that other survival horror games don't do: it puts an emphasis on story. Silent Hill is also story-oriented, but it uses imagery and symbolism more often to get its point across. Resident Evil barely has a story backing it, and it hit an all time low with Resident Evil 4. Sure, amazing gameplay, graphics, controls, camera, dialogue ... you name it, RE4 did it well - except in plot. You have to go through *literally* one hundred or more Ganados just to get between segments of the story. I mean, seriously - if you've played the game, do a mental checklist of all of the locations in the game and tell me how many of them you actually went through that furthered the story. Not that many, right? Don't get me wrong. Resident Evil is great. Everything in it is made of win and awsm - but it's generic.

And I suppose that most games are turning this way, though. Even with this third Fatal Frame game, we're seeing repeated elements. There aren't enough Katamari Damacies popping up these days, but I guess that's to be expected. With our current technology, we're forced to repeat concepts. Until we invent true virtual reality (ie: holodecks) or something else not yet thought of, this is basically where we're stuck. I suppose that's why my gaming has dropped off in recent years. I can't find anything as good as the classics, and there isn't anything new to wow me.

Anyway, that turned out a lot longer than I was planning on. On a related note, playing Fatal Frame III has reminded me of many cutscenes that I forgot were in the game. It makes me even more interested in doing a video for all three of them. I already have the perfect song. (Although, it occurred to me that if I do every video I want to do with this band, I'll end up really annoying people. It's... a lot of videos.) The main trouble is that it's a fairly long song, and even though it works great for the games, I'm not sure I'll have enough footage to cover the whole piece. I would consider cutting down the song, but I'm not sure that I can. It's one of those songs that keeps building up and up. So like, if I tried to blend the first verse's ending with the second chorus's beginning, it might not sound right. If I were able to do it, though, the song would be closer to four minutes instead of six.

Above all that, though, I'm just not a fan of cutting down music. You confuse fans of the song, and it's kind of like taking the cheap way out. In some cases, I can see it, I guess. Like with this song - the first half-minute is just white noise. There's really no reason to keep that in. It wouldn't contribute to a video.

    Anyway, I need to quit typing and start... I dunno. Editing or something. Yeah. Gotta go do that now. >_>;;

    See you, folks.
