Now & Then / Dream Theater AMV

Post by PrimeMover » Wed May 16, 2007 5:27 pm

This is my first entry into AMV production, although I'm a long time video producer (commercial TV and a few art shorts). Ever since I saw "Now & Then, Here & There," it made me think of Dream Theater's song, "Lifting Shadows Off a Dream", and finally after a few months of editing and revising, here it is.

This is my first time uploading to a-m-v.org, and though I've tested the link, let me know if any of the info or format is incomplete in any way.

Wow, that was some touching oldschool editing right there. Loved the epic feeling the video produced as well as the whole mood and atmosphere. The storytelling was nice too and I even really like this song now.

5/5, great work

What, Dream Theater, where?! Now and Then, Here and There, too?! *Downloads*

Lifting Shadows is a personal favorite of mine. Myung did a great job with the lyrics.

As a twitch editor (something I'm finding it's really bad to be, as it's hard to edit every single beat), that missed a lot... But it wasn't supposed to be a twitch video, and I realize this, so it won't come into play.

This video was emotionally charged, though the "drop of water into an ocean" thing is almost too literal (and makes me wonder why I didn't think of it, myself), it works pretty well. I thought you did a good job on the solo, in particular. "Horrors of war" kind of thing. A beautiful AMV, really and truly.

The only issue to me is that in the video itself some of the cuts seems a little too slow. Slow isn't bad, but there are a few things that always had something appearing in my mind whenever I listened to this song thinking of an AMV. Then again, as a dramatic video, it works really well.

Great job, particularly for a first AMV. Maybe not your first video production, but definitely good. I look forward to more, and would be interested in some of your other productions (IE, could you send me some links via PM?)

That was pretty good, especially for a first amv, though the interlacing is a problem that really shouldn't be.

Telecide is your friend. I'd read up on the guides on the org to get an understanding of how to deinterlace your sources properly for PC viewing. (If you did do this and still got interlacing, remember to set Premeire (and possibly also Final cut pro) to export in progressive and not Interlaced)

that aside, good job.

Eh, it was decent...a lot of it kinda bored me, I wish there had been a little more substance. Still, for your first AMV it was well above-average. 3/5 for good measure, I can see you making some cool things in the future.
