Heck, I did that with 95% of the videos (i.e. all but 3) that I edited with VirtualDub, all made before June 2003, which was when I started using Premiere. Yes, I actually did used to edit in VDub alone, because I hated Windows Movie Maker (it also meant that my original videos were encoded as MPEG-1, not WMV :P ).

It's also one of the most infuriating methods of editing as well, probably second only to doing the 2 VCR method, because it's done virtually the same way - completely linear. VDub only has the advantage of being able to cut the scenes away as separate files rather than the continuous pause-rec-rewind-fastforward-play-repeat stuff that doing it on VCR (or camcorder for that matter) requires.

I think you missed something that MJ pointed out to you here... 3:4 is one weird aspect ratio... figure out what you did wrong (well, the context of the advice itself wasn't wrong, but yeah, go figure)

Personally, I think advices should be given only when you're certain you're not making a mistake

You know what? I think you should learn the basics of ripping footage before you start calling people lazy for using the editing program of their choice. I spent half a year on a video using wmm that would have been a thousand times quicker and easier and lazier if I'd had access to Premiere. It might be an easy program to use, but that doesn't make up for it being a more difficult program to use if you're trying to get something out of it that it wasn't designed to do. :?
guy07 wrote:If u don’t use WMM but still use wmv, please stop. It will lower your hit rates because others will think it was made with wmm.
Why? I never produced to wmv when I used wmm. I didn't use mpg and xvid to try and hide the fact that I used wmm, either. I put the editing program right there in the vid description just like people using Premiere put the version they use. I don't think using wmm is anything to be ashamed of. That's really insulting.
quy07 wrote: USE THE SAME SOURCE FOR EACH VID. I see so many vids where the video quality and aspect ratio are allover the place because people use so many different sources for their vids.
Are you trying to kill multi-anime vids? They're already rare since it's so tedious and difficult to rip so many dvds now that editing with vobs is commonplace. It is possible to use various sources and preprocess each one so the final video has perfectly fine quality without any issue of conflicting aspect ratios - that's where the cropping and resize options in avisynth and vdub come in. I happen to like multi-anime vids, making them, but especially watching them. I'm not alone, either. Just look at the vca winners this year.

...totally agree about limiting lip-flap, though. That's been discussed in a few threads if you want to search the gen-amv section. Seems the verdict was half and half. Odd as it might sound, some people think it's natural to have a video show instrumental scenes where there's nothing moving except the character's flapping lips. It's a pet peeve of mine, but still just a difference of opinion.

i'm not saying all wmm users are lazy, some of them are REALLY good, like clamp-x, but most of them tend to slack off it seems and not fallow the few simple rules. sorry if i offended u Arigatomina, those comments weren't aimed at any one individual. as for the same source comment, i should of said something like "sources with similar quality", i have nothing against multi-anime amvs.
and infinity, i said in the begining that i make alot of typing mistakes. but thanx for pointing that out, i thought MJ was just making a joke, lol.
I agree that in some vids lip flapping is ok IF it server a perpous. Like for comedic subs, like in my Valentines day amv. other wise it's still a no-no[/quote]

What's wrong with lipsynching to instruments? :/

nothing really, especially if the character is pretending to play an instrument

As long as I edit, there will always be bad AMVs. Sorry, guy07.

Well my personal advice would be to start comminicating with someone who already has experience in amv-creating. This is how I started. My videos aren't really that great, but I am making progress and a permanent beta-tester is something nice as well ^^. I would like to advice beginners to try to find someone who can help them this way ( and I am talkng about average creators as tutors, so probably you won't find any help by contacting the really big fishes around here).
