  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

with kero (one of the local servers, the one that your video is stored on) being really slow (my usual speeds of 700kb/s-3000kb/s have been reduced to 30kb/s)
it's taking a while to download

it looks like a lot of the clips were thrown together... and although sometimes it can work out it usually ends up hurting the video.

the video quality wasn't too great, and there really wasn't a lot of sync.
there were a few moments, but you could have really ran with this idea.

now comes the standard first video comments:
work on changing between clips on the beats, you don't have to do every beat, but it definately helps if you cut on the beat.

make sure you use dvds to get the best possible footage quality.

I'm not sure if you added those subtitles. If you didn't, you will get a lot of grief if you don't remove them.

do a little planning of your video beforehand, in the end it'l probably reduce the time it takes to make videos and with a little practice you can make videos that look like they've hardly been edited at all

dbz is a very popular source, with over 10 thousand dbz videos on this site, so don't expect too many comments (very few of those 10,000+ videos are any good, so when you make a dbz video you have to get over a statistic that's been set into many people's minds)

clip reuse often sticks out like a sore thumb, and can really hurt a video

overall, I think it was about average

You could've said more of what you thought of it specifically on the content as opposed to the technical aspects. Being new I don't have the same understanding of the creating process as you do. Your words are large and confusing as well they are pointy and mean at times.

I really just wanted to make light of dragon ball z. If it was an a-typical DBZ amv then I have quite tickled.

None of what Kariudo said was anything any amateur shouldn't be able to understand. He gave you some good advice; I'd suggest taking it to heart. None of it was mean-spirited, either. It was all just advice to improve your future videos; if you don't want to listen to what he says then don't expect people to think your videos warrant them spending time watching 'em :?

Since the technical aspect has been already been discussed, let me say a few words on the content... *cough*... It was minimal. To me it seemed like you took an episode of DBZ, with a lion, and threw the whole un-edited clip on the timeline and said to yourself: "This will do".

You posted earlier about having seen many AMVs from this site before, and liked the AMV hell series. Yet, in your profile you have only registered around last year. Either you haven't seen actually good AMVs too much, or haven't learned from the good ones. This vid of your's isn't really comparable, but yet you seem to insist on people paying attention to you. I think some self-criticism is in order.

If all you're looking for on your AMV are comments like 'ooooo taht iz gr8!', you're in the wrong place and would probably be happier on the toob.

If you're looking for actual constructive critique, then you just got it. Don't take it personal, and don't take it as 'mean'. There was absolutely nothing mean about it. It was a very well-written and honest critique that --if you set aside your personal bias a moment-- gives you a lot of good advice.

It was your first AMV, and you're understandably proud of it, but you made the same mistakes that all newbies make. This is not necessarily a bad thing... it's how we learn. It only becomes a bad thing when you take an honest crit personally, ignore the advice, and don't bother to improve.

We all have to start somewhere, and we've all been where you are.

As for not getting many comments... that was already addressed, but it bears repeating, if you want more people to see the AMV, you have to let them know it's there. Being more active in the community helps, as well as using a source that's not used by a gazillion other members here.

*points at self*

I can speak from experience. I have been a member here for a little over a year, but I haven't been all that active in the community until recently (and still not very active at that), and I use Fullmetal Alchemist, which means I'm also using a source that has a gazillion other AMVs made from it.

I haven't received many comments, but then, I haven't done the work to get them, either.

Trust me, it's not a slight against you, personally.
