In response to some of the comments...
Scott Green: yup. Any game allowed on the .org will be allowed in this project. Still tossing around ideas for the music, but I know for sure that I definitely don't want games being put to their own soundtracks. That's straying too close to the VG Project, and I don't want to steal their thunder. Just letting you know, I couldn't get DMC3 to work with the ripping guide when I've tried it in the past, so I have to assume it can't be ripped. RE4 works, though. Yes, WMM will be allowed - IF the product is good enough. And high quality editing doesn't refer to the codecs (it's pretty much a given that I want lossless for that), but rather to the actual editing in the video. I'm flattered that you like the idea so much, but I'm going to hold off on taking a co-coordinator for now. This is my first MEP, and while I definitely would appreciate input, I don't really want anyone doing my work for me for the time being.
Stolen Soul, AMV4000: glad to see you (hopefully) on board. ^_^
sto: o_O? I'll take that as a good thing.
Arkada, ngsilver, aerialesque:let's hope all goes well. The more the merrier.
CrackTheSky: like I said - if's it's .org-able (and you can make it look hawt), I'll allow it. Also, I'm thinking about what to do for Final Fantasy. I don't want to say, "It's not allowed," but I also would prefer that the entire block of editors weren't using it. I still believe in good ideas coming from those games, so we'll just have to see what happens.
TakefujiYami-sama: good point on the music. That's something I had been thinking about, too. I'm pretty sure that a member (Pie Row Maniac or Pwolf, maybe?) had a problem with Immediate Music, so I'd rather not chance it if it is going to be a possible problem.

I'm much more interested in using old-school games, I just don't know if I could make a segment interesting enough using only 2D games :/ And I'm limited to FFVII/VIII for anything 3D, pretty much. I'll give it some more thought, but I'm still interested.dj_ultima_the_great wrote: CrackTheSky: like I said - if's it's .org-able (and you can make it look hawt), I'll allow it. It´s okay that you don´t take a co-coordinator, but I´m defintely so in this project with resident evil 4!!!!!!!!
As for ripping dmc3 i still have to try it, but i´ll definetly giving it a shot...
As for music, yeah when i think of the soundtracks the most aren´t really so amv-able......except for dmc3
i would like ro see some rock, metal, industrial on this project.... i think the best would be instrumentals
Seeing forward to the start of the project.....

I'm definetely interested to join this video game project when its time is come.
I like the idea of mixing my own track with an instrumental, but there's the problem of mixing all the parts at the end.
Anyway I'm trying to get the DMC FMVs, or I will take the metal gear series.
Looking foreward to join this!

I Could produce a silent hill 1, 2 or 3 video by request. However i'd have to ask politely for savegames. Silent Hill forums are always a good place to go. Then again i could just beat it real quick on easy...
However i really really would love to do Fatal Frame II or Fatal Frame I - but the problems with my Capture card and xbox games makes it very hard if not impossible. My next question is does anybody know how to rip the FMVs from the Playstation II disk?
@ Dj Ultima - I think this has more potential to succeed than my Survival horror idea, as it is more broad. But will the org really not host it, if say, i was to use Halo? Why must all the games be of Japanese origins. I'm a passionate gamer too and i know of plenty a good story featured in U.S games. As this proves. The org is still willing to host videos which include U.S titles - as long as their is an "orgable" source listed in the video (which there will be). I'm not saying i would use this option but i'm not sure why it is already excluded.
Also i'd be willing to help you out with the technical side of things. Although i've never fully headed a MEP i've co-hosted and also been apart of a few in my time.
Overall its a good idea. Thanks for picking it up Jen!

Alrighty, I figured I should give a vague update, even though there isn't much to update on, per se.
CrackTheSky: hmm... the idea of a 2-D segment is definitely interesting. I'll have to see what you do with it before I can make a judgment, though. Don't worry about deadlines when this thing finally kicks into gear. I'm probably going to be more relaxed about the schedule, so that'll give you plenty of time to work on a beta of something.
Scott Green, masterGT: so, you both like the idea of instrumentals too, huh? So do I. I'm definitely leaning towards it, and if enough of the potential participants show support for the idea, I wouldn't mind doing it.
bluetrain: a PS2 ripping guide is right here; it won't get you ALL of the scenes in the Fatal Frame games, if that's what you're considering, but it gets a LOT of them. More than enough to make a good segment. Also, I would love any help you can offer on the technical side. I'll be sure to PM you once I get more of this in order.
About the use of American games and/or games of origins other than Japan... it's not that I'm against it. It's just that in order for the MEP to be hosted on the .org, it needs about 75% Japanese games in it (actually, it's more like 51%, but we're being safe here). I said "Japanese games only" at the start just to make sure that people were leaning generally in that direction. If I get a segment or two with a non-Japanese game, I'm certainly not going to freak out. It just can't be the majority.
So, about the music... what does everyone think of instrumentals? I don't have a long mix in mind, but keeping things language-free would definitely lend some cohesion to the project. Another issue is our definition of "instrumental." Are we talking piano? Hardcore rock techno? I'd like to narrow it down and not have too many segments sitting on either extreme.
Of course, anyone willing to offer a long mix is still invited to do so. I'll keep searching through my music collection for something suitable. Until then, feel free to discuss the music or anything else relevant to the project.
One last thing: from the number of people showing interest, my goal is for roughly a ten minute project, minus the credits. I want to avoid going above fifteen minutes. After watching many MEPs, I've realized that even the best projects get boring to sit through at that point.
So, keep on brainstorming, folks. See ya.

PS: I have all of the essentials for video editing/compiling installed, but my computer is having some problems unrelated to that. Just letting you know, because I may not post the official thread until around the second week of February or so. Hopefully the issues will be resolved by then.

Instrumental would be best for video game footage, I think. Way easier to synch various storylines to music with no lyrics.dj_ultima_the_great wrote:So, about the music... what does everyone think of instrumentals? As for definition . . . I was generally thinking music along the lines of soundtrack/trailer music, like Immediate Music or X-Ray Dog. I.e songs from movie soundtracks like Lord of the Rings, Van Helsing, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. I could whip up a 10-12 minute mix of soundtrack songs if everyone else likes the idea.
But no Requiem for a Dream, kthx.
I think a dance instrumental would seem a wee out of place in an MEP of other instrumentals, unless the entire project was dance.

That'd be a better idea, actually, because not everybody out there likes the soundtracks, and they're not exactly the easiest to edit to =\ Without becoming boring.sayde wrote:I don't mind the idea of using instrumentals, but I'd prefer it if we could at least have the option of choosing the instrumental we'd like to use. (Not without approval of course.)
If we go with the people choosing their own songs, what we could do is anyone entering the project could send me their song, and I'll whip up a mix with all the songs.
Should do like, homework and stuff, but bah, AMVlife is more fun.
