Journals are being used as chatrooms...to an obsene amount
I know that it was never decided on that they COULDN'T but this is getting crazy. Every single new journal at the current moment is only being used to talk to the last one. Even when you tell them to cut it down they just brag that they ARE chatting.
Isn't this a little overboard with journal abuse? The journals aren't chat rooms.

Obscene? I'm seeing max three posts a day in most cases. You've already forgotten when some people would post fifty times a day? (Yes, I counted, out of incredulity)
People should reread this. And you should find some journals that you like and add them to your buddy list.

yah ive noticed alot of useless BS in the journals lately. alot of that BS could have just been sent by PM. i guess they want the whole world to see their BS. i mean thats why there is a PM link in the journal options. people should use it. its there for a reason its not there to look pretty. when it gets to a point when people are overusing the journals and using it as a chat room is really ridiculous.

People are going to be OT no matter what, and I think its probably one of the best ways to raise additional donations out of people. The other site benefits are nice, but I think this would probably hold the most appeal.Otohiko wrote:I immediately raise the old ragged banner of bringing back OT (at least for donators) as THE solution

a-m-v.org journal count: 243Journals are boring now anyway, nothing fun, why even use it anymore?
livejournal journal count: 105
deviantart journal count: 3
That's why. : /
To clarify, I'm on this site the most. Naturally, since I'm always on it, I'm always more inclined to use the journal here. Some of us didn't use our journals for chatting in the first place (and didn't really care about others who did), and thus weren't affected before or after all of these complaints about chatting started up. Therefore, I continue to use my journal and I enjoy using it. If you can't enjoy using the .org journals, then go to LJ and request your friends to go there as well.
Besides, if you really pay attention, most people don't get bumped off of the list for at least a day. That's a pretty slow influx of new entries, and one that should be easy to follow if you're trying to catch each of them.
Furthermore, you know who you like on this site. Don't read the journals of those you have problems with. If you're interested in newcomers, then refer to the previous paragraph - the influx of new entries is relatively slow now, and you shouldn't have a problem finding newbies if you check the .org once a day. Also, keep in mind that not everyone may have gotten the memo that chatting isn't well-liked by some site members. There are people on this site who aren't as interested in the forums and could have easily missed the thread from before.
If a certain aspect of the site displeases you, you don't have to use it. No one is forcing you. There are those who enjoy the journals the way they are, and we are taking steps to make journals more user friendly and organized (PM button, anyone?). The only thing left is to simply add a comments section, just like LJ.
Personally, I'm of the belief that as long as the flaming is kept to a minimum, the journals are a friendly place for people to go when they get bored of watching AMVs. It's a small community unto itself, and it's not doing any more harm than annoying a handful of people just by being there.
In closing, I'd just like to say one more thing. I will be extremely pissed off if the journals are taken away just because a few people decide to spoil the fun. They're not hurting anyone, so why do you want to hurt them? Really think about that question before you say anything else.

I can't even remember the last time I read someone's journal. I think it was Jubbies last entry.
I only read journals from people that don't appear on the new entries list often cause in most cases they have something worth reading. All the others are just ignored,
IT'S THAT EASY!

"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

You know, its only seems to be a problem because a couple people make it that way. Have you ever noticed that people get more "chatty" in the journals either when a troll shows up or when "journal police" types come in and start throwing threats around like they're going to get the journals taken away or get the person banned. Really, that just makes people chat more. Either directed at them in defense (or mockery), or just out of spite. It doesn't help at all. (Neither do threatening or insulting pms.) Really, it isn't that bad anymore. Like Doki said, for the most part, the "junkies" are keeping it to 3 entries or less. Occasionally more, but just on average, its usually 3 or less. All that heavy chatting that used to go on before has in fact been taken to the pms. Really all that's left now is people that may not have got the memo and just a couple quick "chatty" comments here and there that are probably about the equivelent of messages on a refrigerator. Not entire involved convos like before. Then if someone posts something especially interesting or thought provoking, there may be a lot of people sharing their thoughts on the subject, but that's not really chatting. That's writing your thoughts. Which is what a journal is for. And as was said before, everyone knows who they like and don't like. Put the ones you like on your buddy list so you make sure you don't miss their journals and ignore the ones you know you don't like, unless you're really that much of a masochist, in which case don't take it out on everyone else.
