No really. The only awards I have ever won were for peices of shit I crapped out in a liquor fed fit of insanity.
Remining myself of this makes me want to edit another serious video; but thats not damn likly.
x2 :D

I always do my best stuff drunk. My drunken banners are always better and one of my best vids up right now was done in a 5 hour drinking binge. . .and wound up being more seriously profound than anything I had ever done without even trying to. Hit the booze, then edit.

Isn't it obvious? Finish it and post it to see if they like it. That's the whole point of a-m-v.org... If they didn't like it but you're sure it had the potential to be good, next comes the Remastered version where you blow their minds fixing everything they commented on. You won't learn anything unless you make mistakes.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

x2. I do this all the time, and bring it back if the idea comes back to haunt me compellingly enough.

Also attempt to scrap your "I cannot be AVERAGE, for I am MAGNIFICENT!!!!" style ego, because it probably causes more problems than it solves. I doubt anyone cares as much as you do whether you have a clunker or two in your catalog. Don't make a big huge honking deal about it, and few will even notice.

Nothing personal; I think that's true of everyone. Nobody notices or cares as much as people seem to desperately want them to.

Well, it already happened to me, and i stopped all.

I regret today, in my humble opinion, you should keep your files and work your AMV later, when ideas will come back.

I'm sorry about my english.

Make the good choice...have fun

I'm in agreement with those that say to shelve it for the time being.

I wouldn't give up on the vid completely. But maybe a good long break from it will help. I find that putting the project aside and coming back to it at a later date often gets the creative juices flowing.

Case in point from personal experience...the project I'm currently working on was a video that I did last year, but was never happy with what I "finished." It's been sitting untouched for about 10 months. Recently, I opened it up, took another look at it, and the ideas started coming through again - better ideas to make it work, IMO.

If taking a break from it doesn't work...then yeah...hit the booze. :P

If you still like the idea, start all over again with a fresh approach next time instead of trying to modify the old one.

Although a good caffeine buzz can do wonders too.... At least that way you kinda remember how you did things in case you ever want to duplicate an effect or transition.

A good idea (and a very much appreciated offer), but since I'm using videogame footage, I'm not sure how much a beta test would help. Even if someone tells me to switch out a clip, chances are that I don't have anything else that would work. If I were using anime, though, I would definitely welcome betas.

I find this point of view a bit strange coming from you of all people. You insult your own AMVs left and right, but then you say that everyone has an overbearing ego? Are you the exception to the rule, perhaps? : /

Also, I never said that I need to be magnificent. Isn't it natural to want to improve on each video? When I said it was "average," that was the point I was making - it feels like this one is a step back.

For those who suggested booze... ick. No. Alcohol is disgusting. XP

After hearing the suggestions and taking some time to consider them, I think I'm going to save the video as is and just shelve it. I don't want to give up on the idea, but I don't think I can finish it right now.

Thanks to those who responded. It's always good to get insight from other people in the hobby.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I insult my videos because they're bad videos. It's like a mom knowing her kids are dim-witted hellions who will never be of use to society, but loving them anyway because they're hers and she's seen all their good points amidst the crap. No one else will ever love them, but she will. Obviously AMVs are not people, but I have an affection for my work and the effort that went into it that isn't based on other people's opinions.

There's a big difference between "I want to improve compared to my past work" and "I am too good to be average," i.e. "I am better than you people." Most people are average, chica. That's what "average" means. Average does not mean bad.

However, by that same definition, it doesn't mean good either.

Food for thought.
