Be able to delete your own video.
I have some videos I put up on this site a long time ago, which I liked then but think is bad videos now, and I want to delete them but I can't. I think you should be able to delete your own videos that you don't like anymore. I mean, why not?!

or if they don't put up the videos they don't like, which is what most of us do.
I upload everything I make, one is so awful it made Cornwiggle's list of videos that are so bad he loves them. But if most people don't, the least we can do is keep the people who do from undoing it.

Well, yeah, but I have to retort this one. It's a site to catalogue every AMV. As long as it's listed in the directory, that covers the site goal, doesn't it? If a person doesn't want his or her video uploaded anymore, isn't that a totally different story?Corran wrote:One man's trash is another man's treasure.
That, and the goal of the site is to catalogue every amv ever created, which doesn't work if videos get deleted simply because people don't like them anymore.
Personally, although I have a few ones I wish weren't on the site, I don't really feel strongly one way or the other on this matter. However, for people who do want their videos removed, I feel like they should have that choice.
I realize that it would make more work for the admins, but couldn't you have a few folks dedicated to just taking removal requests?
Anyway, those are just my thoughts.

I do think that being able to take down whatever vid you wanted just because you don't like it does kinda defeat the purpose of the site, which, as it says, to catelog all AMVs whether they're good or bad. Not to mention, not being able to remove vids helps cut down on people uploading their bad vids then changing their minds. But I think for population sake and because people and their editing change a lot and it isn't always fair to show someone's ancient first vid when it in no way shape or form defines their current editing style or skill (yet people still feel the need to bash them for it), I think if a vid is at least 2 or 3 years old or something, you should have the option of removing it. (You don't have to, but the option is there.) Then, the people who upload the bad vids but change their mind the next day still have their vid stuck there for a considerable amount of time. But then people who are currently serious editors won't have their silly jr high "OMG! MY 1ST VID!!!11 IT'S DBZ/POKEMON!!! LOLZ!!11" videos cluttering up their page (and the site) and garnering ops that obviously have nothing to do with them as an editor today. Or even with vids like that, maybe when they get to be that old, keep them on the site (Because this is supposed to catelog ALL AMVs), but have the choice to turn off the ability to leave ops on it. (but people can still leave stars and QCs) Because one would hope that after 2 or 3 years, they would have learned from their mistakes, so leaving ops on it would just be silly.

Re: Be able to delete your own video.
Own your mistakes as well as your successes. It's healthier. Besides, many people were rank newbies before they hit their stride - not all, but many. There's no shame in that. Just tell people in your profile or notes that you've done better work since then, point them to it, and accept that you are human.cinderkon wrote:I have some videos I put up on this site a long time ago, which I liked then but think is bad videos now, and I want to delete them but I can't. The fact that we're unable to delete our own videos has nothing to do with this site being a catalogue. As noted, the purpose is to list all the videos, not to host them.
The reason we can't delete our own videos is because the local server could be abused if anyone who joined up could upload and then delete and then reupload files at will. I don't think the problem is as major now that there are a lot of file-hosting sites free for use these days. But it's still a possibility that would cause more trouble than the site needs.
Ex: Person uploads an episode/hentai/non-amv file - waits for a few downloads and then deletes it before it can be reported (and removed). They then wait a few days and upload something else equally unallowed here.
It would make tracking abusers much more difficult. As long as files are there the members who abuse the site are easily identified.
.
That said, I think there should be an option to have older videos deleted if the creator wishes them to be gone from the local server. I don't think we should be able to delete them ourselves - because of the problems mentioned above - but local deletion requests shouldn't be turned down unless the member is abusing the option. If a person keeps replacing the same vids and then asking for a deletion, sure, blacklist them and deny all future requests from that person. But if a member decides he no longer wants this website to host his fanwork, it should be his choice whether or not the local copies are deleted. We still don't have a disclaimer saying the local copy we upload becomes the property of animemusicvideos.org - that means it's just another host, and the host only gets to keep what the user uploads as long as the user gives permission.
Since the hobby is essentially illegal, anyone who keeps a local copy of their vid here is in danger. If that member decides the danger is no longer worth having the vid distributed, he should be allowed to request the local copy be removed. The site doesn't even have to delete the copy. They can just hide the links the way they did with those Evanescence entries.

You mean those videos are still on the server?Arigatomina wrote:The site doesn't even have to delete the copy. They can just hide the links the way they did with those Evanescence entries.

Strange, huh? That's why new people pop into the forum asking where their vids are - they upload them, confirm the upload, and then find out that links aren't allowed for that video. It's uploaded on the local server, they just can't access it. My old blacklist vids are still listed as 'local' on the 'edit my videos' page. I guess there's a reason the site wants to keep a copy of non-distributable vids. It's not the space that costs the most money, anyway, it's the bandwidth. They're not being downloaded so they're not hurting anything. I think the site would benefit if more videos were undownloadable. No sense wasting bandwidth on videos whose creators don't want them distributed anyway. If the artist can ask that certain vids not be distributed, you'd think the creator of the video could, too.Gepetto wrote:You mean those videos are still on the server?![]()
They'll delete the local copy of your video if you remaster it. That's one of the legitimate reasons to request the local copy be deleted. Just be sure to explain in the deletion request - that you just want the local copy deleted so you can replace it with a remastered version. Whether or not you replace the video on the local server (as apposed to a direct or indirect link) is up to you. Loop hole.Kionon wrote:...when I am finished remastering my CCS video, I would very much like the current version removed from LOCAL.
