What? Another damn Eva vid? crap...
Hey guys,
well, this vid has finally premiered at Kawaii Kon 2006 so now I can finally upload it here!
Video Title: Threshold
Video Source: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Audio Source: the Hand that Feeds by NiN
Link: Threshold - original working title: project bite
or click below
This will be my last Eva vid for a while - Project Destiny (as described in my profile description will probably be put on hold while I work on another video project (either project March or another mep idea or two).
So, if you aren't sick of my Eva vids just yet, please download and enjoy!

NIN and Eva? Definitely at the least worth a look.
Way too calm and focused on the lyric snyc is my first impression. The first thing above everything else that grabs my attention is that nothing says insanity. The music and lyrics would indicate rapid cuts and other fast paced effects. You made a shot at it about half way through, 1:50 or so, and it was a start, but I didn't understand the point of it, the flashes seemed like weirdly placed footage instead of something that added. The focus on gendo seemed fine, but I would have sought for a method that would have showed more abuse, if in nothing else the cuts and other effects throughout the video to at least give a reason for biting that hand, if he does.
In short, good concept that definitely works, just the style of editing doesn't fit it. As far as technical stuff goes, seemed fine to me though a more discerning taste might nitpick.

I'm a sucker for Eva videos, especially when set to NIN.

Qyot27 - hehehe, gotcha! Loved to hear what you think
JaddziaDax - well, Bloody Period just didn't quite fit the theme of the story, sorry...
Orwell - hmm, I really wasn't looking at the insanity theme in this video as, from what I understand from the story, Shinji isn't really insane (he just whines and screams a lot). The point of entry into the story of the vid only covers the last third of the series and, I must admit, is pretty much for Eva fans. This video, also, wasn't ment to cover the whole series, just that point where Shinji must make the decisions that thrust him from under Gendo's influence, and unto his own.
I guess too that I hear the song differently than you do, as to me, the fast cuts to me wouldn't have matched the very lyrical nature of this NiN song. The 'cross' scenes you mention are there to emphasize Shinji's introspection in his moment of indecision and the thoughts within begin to overwhelm him until hels brought back into reality by the crash or Eva 02's head. I thought that this piece of the music, as it was very beat-driven, warrented this style of video editing.
Still, thanks for your comments! Even though not eye to eye, I do appreciate your point of views as it gives me insight to how others view the same piece!

I can see the reasoning for people expecting a fast paced action video to this song, but it worked well as a mood piece. This is an interesting character profile on Shinji. Having watched Eva again recently (and the first time in English), I felt this vid did a good job showing Shinji's struggle to face his fears and escape from his father's shadow. And once again I am reminded that for almost the entirety of Eva, Gendo just sits or stands, staring.
Good job on the video. Thumbs up.

I think that you not having a lot of fast-paced sync here actually made the lyrics stand out more. At least, that's what I was paying more attention to than I usually do. Nice selection!

Judge - I wanted it to premiere at Kawaii Kon first before I posted it up. Since K2 is over now... and shhh... not so loud - besides, it's called pakalolo here, not pot
Jubbers - um, hello everyone, my name is buma and I am a lyric sync'er! hehehe, yes, I really wanted to pull the connection of the lyrics to the images as that's what drew me into this song/video combination. I just hope others aren't put off by it expecting a 'popcorn-eating, seizure-fest'
Willen - mood piece, I like that. I never quite thought of it that way, but yes, I guess it could be classified as a mood-setting video. <sniff> at least there are a few of you that don't automatically think NiN + Eva = fast-paced. And yes, Gendo, the bastard, just sorta sits around glaring at everyone for most of Eva - I was spoiled for choices on that image

Honestly, I think it's refreshing to see something more fast paced in nature used as a mood piece. I agree with Jubbers here...it makes the lyrics stand out more...and if there's one thing I'm big on, it's lyrics

Nice job!!
