When I was searching for AMV's I often avoid large and popular series; having 100 episodes plus, which series like Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, and Naruto. This is because I find there are alot of bad music videos in there and the search features don't help me weed out the bad ones.
I have few suggestions to help me find the best AMVs in the large and popular series.
1. Character profile searches need to have an input for the specific character. They do not always character's name in title. For example, when I want to find character profiles on Gohan, I have to weed through Goku and Vegeta tributes.
2. Large series need to have a search input for the saga. I find it frustrating that when I want to find a tribute, for example, on Gohan in the Saiyan and Freeza sagas, that I have to weed though a bunch of
Cell Saga super saiyan transformation MVids.
3. If I could search based on video editing techniques used for example, lip syncing, transitions, zooming ect. It would be very helpful to judge a person's skill.
4. A search based on file size, or meg per second ratio, would help me find Mvids of good footage quality.

Bug;
When I goto to use category searches, for example character profile, the search becomes unhighlighted when I goto the second page.
Suggestions on search features. Also a found a bug.

Another suggestion,
Another suggestion this time for message boards;
I noticed a few grammatrical errors in my first post, normally I edit it after I have posted but this board does not seem to have a feature where I can edit my previous post. It's really frustrating when I know I have made grammatrical mistakes.

For the issue of editing your posts, that is a topic that has been tossed around many, many times on this site. The admins/mods decided that that function will not be added and have remained adamant about it for a long time. Just to let you know, since that's what the other site members will tell you.
As for the other problems, I can sympathize with some of them. However, the more popular anime on this site each have their own section in the Recommended AMVs forum. I realize that this doesn't come close to the number of good AMVs for those series, but it's definitely a good start. You should check it out if you haven't already.

1. The only way to search for a character profile for a specific character could work is if there was some sort of special field for the character's name the profile was of in the database, and as of now, there isn't one. Adding it would require every creator of every character profile on this site to go back and enter that information, which I doubt will happen anytime soon. Now, if searching the video information worked (it used to not work, don't know if it was fixed or not), you could try putting, say, "Vegeta" there and it would only show you videos that use the word Vegeta in the video information. Unfortunately, not everyone puts relevant video information for their videos "I made this video last week. It is awesome."). But at least it would give you something to go on.
2. This again would require every creator to go back and fix their old video information. Some of these people are not active anymore, others are too lazy or just don't care.
3. See 2).
4. This is possible, I think.
5. I think this is a known bug. The new page information isn't saving the state of the previous page.

That issue didn't stop them from adding a 'sentimental' category, or the relatively new (1 year? 2?) 'trailer' category. The new videos will use the function and those older editors who are still active will edit their information if they want to. We don't have to rule out new features just because the old videos didn't have access to them back in the day. If it worked that way, people never would have switched to cars because it wasn't fair to the old horse and buggy drivers. You don't have to use the new feature. We still have the Amish obstaining from recent advances.badmartialarts wrote:2. This again would require every creator to go back and fix their old video information. I like the idea of having a pull-down list of characters for each anime, whether it's a character profile or not. It would be nice to have an easy function to find videos featuring minor characters. A function like this would be especially good for romance videos - assuming you can select at least two characters per video. I've seen an option just like this implemented at www.fanfiction.net a few years ago with great results. Sure, the old fics had to update or get left out of the 'search by character' list, but that's what happens when a site adds new features. It's normal.
To really do this, you'd need an option in the super search menu - possibly in the 'search by anime' list, so you click the anime and it expands to list the characters entered so far for that title. People would add new characters for the anime just like we add new songs for an already-existing artist.
It would be nice if typing the character into the 'keyword/description' box worked, but it doesn't work. Just getting a second page on the super search is almost impossible, even if people were descriptive about the focus of their videos. The 'search by anime' page actually works, so adding new features to it would make searching for videos easier.
