Just Another Generic Amv Question
Ever since i read the forum on the average age group of amv makers on this site. i wondered how much time the average "good" amv maker spends with there projects. not just one. but how much time out of the day do you spend on your amv making hobbie. and if it is an insane amount of time. then i would like to know what your job is so i can ask for a reference and a hookup

Close calls are always the most exciting. Coming close is always the most dissapointing.

I do one to two hours of editing at any one time. If I take less time, I don't get anything done. If I go longer, I get really tired and irritated with what I'm doing.
I know that there are many people who edit for a shorter time and get far more done. The same is true of the opposite - longer time, less done.
That's probably what you'll hear from most people.

Depends on how much I am into a video.
If I reach a point where I don't like where the video is going or I think it's not that fun to make then my work sessions can be as low as half an hour.
If I'm in the mood to edit or it's a video I'm really enjoying editing then the sessions last in the 3-5 hour range.
The longest session was 72 hours without sleep to complete a video when the deadline was three days away.

I can spend an entire day editing... on of my HP videos (non anime) took 24 hours of editing, with only bathroom breaks...
whats my job? I am married and my husband is in the millitairy, so all of our needs are pretty much met
he has no time on the other hand... and rarely gets to work on a video.

In length of time in days? Not very long(usually).
But I'm one of the weirdos that sits down and literally only gets up from the editing screen to eat when my hands are so shakey that I can't work, or I'm so tired I fall out of my comfy chair lol.
So even thoug I may spend from 3 - 5 days on a project, my overall time is usually 20 - 40 hours or so.

It heavily depends, about the time I spend on a video, it depends on my free time, I don't have a work, I'm a student, so some days I can even pass on an Amv from 4 to 12 hours.. Other days, even nothing. It heavily depends on my school days.
More generally, about an Amv I usually spend from 70 to 200 hours of work, 'till now I didn't touched the 201 hours, so for now I think this is my average.

It shouldn't take any longer than your source footage, so if you're editing a two hour movie it should take two hours. Less if you're skilled.

To each his own, I just made a kenshin amv and it took me approx 18 hrs, working on and off of course(school+work=kicking my ass). My thing is, if its not a freshly watched anime or somthing you freqently visit, you gotta do research on it. Like my next project I gotta watch all of trigun, so I can get the perfect scenes in my head. But I'll sit around like 5 to 6 hours a day editing if i can, and if you add that time its gets quite long before I finsh a quality video(like 5-6 hours for like 2-3 weeks straight--Dedicated--).NME2 wrote:It shouldn't take any longer than your source footage, so if you're editing a two hour movie it should take two hours. This recent one I made I did kinda fast because specifically my friend told me not to put in a lot of work. I did anyway, just not as much as one of mine. Futher more using a song thats in another language makes it mighty difficult, but I managed.
Oh god, that black dude with the afro is always making those damn trash ass music hip hop amvs...he needs to do something with techno or rock....

Lately, my projects have been around the 80-100 hour range. As for editing sessions, once I'm on a roll I tend to edit as long as I can, so probably a good 3-5 hours at a time. I've pulled 8 hour stretches, mostly for con deadlines, but that kinda kills off the day for other stuff, so I try to avoid that.
