A suspense/horror video to music from Card Captor Sakura

Post by jasper-isis » Mon Oct 10, 2005 9:15 pm

My first solo video in many months...

Title: The Curse of Saturn
Anime: Witch Hunter Robin
Music: various themes from Card Captor Sakura

Strange choice of music? Watch the video and see. It's more sinister than you might think. :P

And here's a "poster" for pure self-indulgence:

Hooray for getting out of an editing slump! :D

Wow...it's finally done. Took you a while, eh? :)

Definitely not your typical suspense/horror video...enjoy it in the dark with the speakers turned up!

According to the end bumper, you made it in October 2004. :o

Hmm, this video seriously needs to be watched in a dark room and on fullscreen with the speakers cranked up (of which I didn't do  ).

Great atmosphere, really creepy. The music, artwork, and Barbie dolls all played a part in making it so. Especially the dolls. (shivers)
I honestly don't know how little girls live with those things. In a dark room, they're as bad as clowns.

Am I the only one here who's never been bothered by clowns?

Anyway... mr. Saturn devouring his offspring scared me far more, for some strange reason. Goya, in general, is probably the one artist that actually scares me - with his extensive detail on the inquisition tortures and whatnots.

And the air conditioners. *shakes fist*

Otherwise, I've not had anything to complain of this for a while. It's not a bright video, which might work against it being, you know, popularly-appealing - but it works for what it tries to do, and it scares me. Yes, still.

****

As for 2004.............

...you know the story. I nearly threw up on my keyboard in response to that. :|

Oooh... creepy. I like how you made it a horror without adding any gore, and the vid was edited very nicely. The end was rather abrupt, but still... me likes. :)

the audio was really great. well edited, very clear, and perfectly suited for a horror vid. the video had a lot of scenes that contributed to a sense of fear and suspense, but the editing was on at times, off at times. by "on/off" i mean how well it contributed to the sense of horror. an example of where it's on would be 0:47-0:51, where it dimly fades in a bit, playing with the viewer's expectations of what's to happen next. but the sequence of fades, dissolves, and blurs from 1:04-1:54 slowed the pace and eased the tension of the video a bit. and while it's important to have both tensional relax in a vid (to accentuate the tense parts), the segment seemed to last too long without tension buildup. otherwise a very nice job.

and wtf i heard something in the audio during the first playback that i haven't heard since then. a man's voice, gone through audio sampling, that said something like "she hasn't come back and gone out yet" or something. i only heard it the first time, which would suggest it's not part of the video, but it sounded like it came from my speakers rather than from someone outside. or maybe i need to see a doctor...

Thanks! And yeah, dolls and clowns. Don't know how people can stand them in the dark. Especially the ones with frilly outfits and lots of pale makeup. :?

Good thing I'm still not curious enough to look up those Goya paintings. As for almost throwing up on your keyboard... I donno whether that was a more ungraceful moment for you or me. >__>

Thanks! I agree about the ending. I put off editing that part for the longest time because I couldn't find any high-energy yet creepy scenes in the series that translate well into an AMV. In the end, I just thought "meh" and made up an ending that seemed to fit the music. :P

Thanks Chris. And I completely agree about the on/off thing. My primary creepy element in that long middle section was supposed to be the picture of the fat guy that you start seeing at 1:32. He gets a little intimidating if you stare at him long enough, at least to me (and Oto and krzT). I didn't expect that to work for everybody though. :P

Gah! That's scary! And totally not my doing. When in the video did you hear that?

Thanks again guys! Glad to know that my experiment worked (somewhat). :D

That was indeed creepy. Good job making something not realy that creepy in its original context look that beleivable. Good work on the effects usage to add to that effect. Impressive sound editing aswell, I couldn't tell where you joined the songs.
