Before I actually comment on your video...

upgrade if you can.
Did you even watch the video you made? There was nothing wrong with it. Just because the program is simplistic, doesn't mean you'll put out bad videos with it. I think arigatomina would bite your head off if she read this.
Major problems: crashes a lot.
limited to 1 layer (at least from what i could figure out... it was very linier and only 1 layer).
Agreed on both of those points. You have to give the program a lot of "loading" time between actions. If you work slowly, it only crashes a minimal amount of times. Of course, "minimal" is somewhere in the ballpark of a dozen times in one video - usually many, many more. Previewing is best done simply by rendering a low quality version of the file. As for layers, I know the guides have something on that. It is possible, but it's not actually something the program itself can do.
Can't Export to anything other then WMV. i tired DV-AVI but it crashes.
Annoying, but I've learned to live with it. Also, DV-AVI did work for one of my videos, though the program crashed after it finished. You might just have wanted to give it a few extra attempts. You can never tell with that thing...
Anyway, my thoughts on your video:
- interesting concept. I like the idea of "life flashing before his eyes"...except...after he's dead... >_>
- quality was fine. I'm assuming you never actually saved this as a .wmv. If you did, however, and this is the converted file, then there's nothing wrong with it.
- "heartbeat" was downright irritating. I was about ready to stop the video when it seemed like the footage was going nowhere in the beginning. Once you got into it, however...
- editing was strong. The quiet, sad mood had its intended effect.
It was a good video, overall; the program isn't nearly as bad as you make it out to be, and your project proves that. Nice job.
