Ok, I bet you're saying "another EVA video. gay."
I promise you though, this one actually has;
#1: kick ass music to it
#2: a prominent storyline in the music, tying into EVA's storyline.
I uploaded my beta video to my webserver which has unlimited bandwidth, it's 19 seconds long and 35 mb. the size will be taken down in the final version, i just haven't gotten around to encoding it in a smaller bitrate (Xvid, 12000).
Here's where i'm going with this video;
The beginning scenes basically replay the biggest parts of (in my opinion) Episode 1, fading in sequence. If you'll notice there are a few parts that are meant to be image tricks; i.e. birds fading into planes, so on.
The bars matching the guitar chords in the next part are supposed to show accompanying memories (thus, being grey and grainy) from the main scene being shown. Yes, they are somewhat random, but there is a reason for that.
The song is called "Brother", and the main chorus goes like this;
"FATHER! When you comin back..
MOTHER! Leave the light on again...
SISTER! with someone somewhere somewhere...
BROTHER! brother, brother..."
The lyrics surrounding the chorus talk about a happy place, about being with people he loved, that are now gone, and he wants them all back.
To me, this perfectly fits how at the end of the TV series (and you can argue the movie too) Shinji loses everyone close to him, i.e. they are still there in SPIRIT but not in actual bodily form to interact with.
Thus, the song is about Shinji missing his family and friends; a line from the song says "I'd trade it all, to have you all here with me".
Father = Gendo, turning his back on Shinji
Mother = leaving the light on for shinji, a safe place
Sister = Rei (yes, i know she's not REALLY his sister) being there as a sisterly figure, with someone (gendo) somewhere (chamber below Nerv)
Brother = Kaoru.
Now I know a lot of you would think Toji would be much better for a "brother", but I picked Kaoru because he ends up being so much closer to shinji, and makes shinji uncomfortable; just like most brothers.
So, in summary;
This AMV/song is about Shinji missing those close to him, and remembering the memories he had with them, which is why parts of the video are in black and white. The beta AMV ends with shinji's memories being a bit clearer, thus the noise is gone and color is fading back into them some.
Critique the fuck out of it; and watch it a few times so you notice what's in the BW bars.
thanks bunches guys. video link below.

(also, i made that Naruto and Neji: Futures video WAAAAAY back last year, if anyone remembers. MSI - Futures was the song.)

Okay, there are several reasons why people haven't responded.
1. It's Eva. I like it, and so do many other people, but the hopes of a good video coming out of it anymore have pretty much died. Even hardcore fans are losing their faith.
2. You typed up a long description for it. People may not want to bother reading that. Call it lazy, but it's true.
3. The video is a beta. It is 19 seconds long. It's 35 MB!? Doesn't that seem just a little ridiculous to you? It should have been MAYBE 1 MB.
4. You posted it in AMV Announcements. This isn't a completed video, so it doesn't really belong here. If you wanted opinions on how to continue or on your current progression, this would have been a topic better suited for the Opinion Exchange forum. Read this to get what I mean.
Now, all of that aside, I believe that you have a very good video running. It seems to be effect-heavy, which I don't mind, but it'll bother some people. Your timing is right on, and I think that your concept will be pretty good. I am, in fact, familiar with the song and like it. So, I can understand how you are interpreting the plot. The only thing I would really suggest is that you make absolutely sure that the plot is what stays in the foreground, and the effects stay secondary. You seem to have a good grasp on how you want the story to flow, and I'm just a bit worried that it'll get lost in the effects.
I hope that that explains everything and helps you some.
As always, Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!

Yeah it was a pain downloading it.. should've encoded it smaller.. but in any case it seems like its going the right direction to being a good video.dj_ultima_the_great wrote:3. The video is a beta. thanks for the critique guys, i really do appreciate it.
i know the effects are getting a *bit* heavy and thanks to a PM by a person on the forums, i'm going to change three or four of the scenes to "flow" more naturally.
and yeh, i know it's huge; it's mostly due to the effects.
thanks for the link to the opinion forum; didn't know beta vids were welcome there, so i'm going to repost this topic over there, can a mod lock this one?
