Bleib! (German/Romance/Gravitation)
Yes, this is the perfect bait for all Shounen-Ai hating people on this board.
But since I stopped caring about scores, I shall not care about these
people anymore. Give me all the 1's you got :s
Well, however, I wouldn't post it if there wouldn't be any hope left
for me to find someone who might enjoy my video. So - the facts:
DVD Footage, no WMV - but also no powereffects and no "big" efforts on this one.
It's focused on the emotional effect, there are absolutely no comedy scenes in this.
What I tried to do was bring out the serious parts and the love story of
the series. There's some lyrical synching, but since it's in german and I
didn't do a translation...
Well you've been warned and informed, go ahead if you dare:
"Bleib!"

Well, I first saw this video as the "new vid on the block," so I downloaded it there.
Gravitation is my favorite anime far and away, so I was excited to see another video to it, even if it was in German (which I don't speak, of course...). So, I watched the video...and I was NOT disappointed. Very well done. Even if you don't think it's anything special (as it says in your video description), this really does stick out as one of the better Gravi videos.
Now, as for the specifics...my only real complaint is how the verses were edited. To me, editing to the quick beats with the grayscale and fade outs was good, but it just got to be too much after a while. It had the same effect as if you had been flashing white over and over. It made me feel epileptic after a time. Still, I do have to respect the fact that you did pay attention to those beats. My favorite part of the video was probably the whole mood that was set. This wasn't a happy romance video, nor was it comedy; that much was obvious early on. I like people who try to put some seriousness to the often inappropriate/awkward humor of Gravitation. Then again, I'm a pushover for serious and angsty videos, so I was bound to like this one's style.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. Despite wishing I knew what it meant, the song was pretty decent, too. The melancholy mood of the song really fit the video. I know that you said you wouldn't translate the song in the video description, but could you at least tell me generally what it's about?
So, thank you for adding another great video to my favorite anime, and I hope you'll consider another doing another one...maybe in English this time? ^_~
As always, Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!

PS: I'm a stereotypical, raging shounen-ai and yaoi fangirl, so I don't mind that stuff at all. Bring on the male/male action! ^_^

Thanks a lot for your opinion, and because you kinda requested it I translated the lyrics, so here they are. It's first the german verse and then the translated one:
does in german but it's quite some poetical lyrics, so there is a
metaphor for everything that is of importance to you. In this case
it was meant as something Shuichi would adress to Yuki.
I tried my best.

I guess in english it sounds more like a ballad for a dog than itBitte darf ich das behalten
Behalt meine alten Träume
Kannst sie verwalten wie du willst
Halt die Welt in deiner Gewalt
Aber nimm deine kalten Hände
von meiner Hand
Please - may I keep this?
Keep my old dreams
you can manage them the way you want
Hold the world in your hands
but take your cold hands
off of my hand
Ich geb dir meinen Verstand dafür
Ich geb dir mein Wort ich will
Für immer stumm sein aber
Nimm das nicht fort von mir
Ich weiß du nimmst alles
Was du willst zu dir
Aber das hier bleibt hier
I give you my mind
I give you my word
I will forever stay silent
But don't take this away from me
I know you take everything
you want with you
But this here stays here
Darf ich das behalten
Ich brauche nichts mehr
Darf ich das behalten
Ich geb alles her
Darf ich das behalten
Ich brauche nichts mehr als das
Ich brauche nichts mehr als das
Ich brauche nichts mehr
Please - may I keep this?
I don't need anything else
Please - may I keep this?
I give everything away
Please - may I keep this?
I don't need antyhing but this
I don't need anything but this
I don't need anything
Darf ich das behalten
Ich habs gefunden
Zerknittert und scheu
Saß es zwischen zwei Stunden
Bevor alles neu war
Und zwischen zwei Blicken
Zwei Schritten im Sand
Fand ich’s in meiner Hand
Please - may I keep this?
I found it
crumpled and shy
has it been sitting between two hours
Before everything was new
And between two glances
Two Footsteps in the sand
I found it in my hand
Ich geb dir meinen Verstand dafür
Ich geb dir mein Wort ich will
Für immer stumm sein aber
Nimm das nicht fort von mir
Ich weiß du nimmst alles

Darf ich das behalten
Ich habs gefunden
Zerschunden und lahm
Hab seine Wunden verbunden
Und jetzt ist es zahm
Please - may I keep this?
I found it
ill-treated and crippled
dressed it's wounds
and now it has become tame
Siehst du es findet den Weg nicht mehr
Ich kann seine Sprache ich
Lauf hinter ihm her und dann
Läuft es mir nach und ich
Halt es geborgen in meiner Hand
Ich schlaf bis zum Morgen
Mit dem Rücken zur Wand
Watch, it doesn't find it's way anymore
I can speak in it's words
Chasing it and now
it follows after me and I
hold it safe in my hand
I sleep until morning
with my back to the wall
Darf ich das behalten
Ich brauche nichts mehr
Darf ich das behalten
Ich geb alles her
Darf ich das behalten

That's what most people find annoying. I guess it was actually meant to be monotone from the beginning since I wanted the video to be one work instead of little sequences, that's why I didn't change any image masks. And it seems I couldn't think of anything less epileptical :>dj_ultima_the_great wrote: Now, as for the specifics...my only real complaint is how the verses were edited. That's exactly what I wanted to achieve. I'm happy it worked. It's just that I always liked Gravitation mostly because of the serious parts. The comedy is alright with me, but for me it's important how the love story is set pretty realistic in all it's up and down's. That's what I wanted to show to the people using this AMV.dj_ultima_the_great wrote: My favorite part of the video was probably the whole mood that was set. Thanks again, and yeah, we'll see. You know there are some people how'd wish I'd stop making Videos featuring guys kissing each other.dj_ultima_the_great wrote:So, thank you for adding another great video to my favorite anime, and I hope you'll consider another doing another one...maybe in English this time? ^_~

Thank you very much.InGoW wrote:I translated the lyrics, so here they are.
I do understand the meaning for the most part, but I agree that something is lost in the translation. It always is. I mean, anyone who has watched a dubbed anime episode can relate to that. Sometimes, there are certain culture points that just don't make sense translated. It's the same in this case.InGoW wrote:I guess in english it sounds more like a ballad for a dog than it does in german
Gee, if I seize, I'll know who to blame.InGoW wrote:And it seems I couldn't think of anything less epileptical :>

I am so totally not one of them, thank Cod. ^_^InGoW wrote:Thanks again, and yeah, we'll see. You know there are some people who'd wish I'd stop making videos featuring guys kissing each other.

Somehow I know dj would post in here.
Ok since you don't get much replies I think I should post my opinion. The fact that it's Shonen Ai makes it a bit strange for homophobics like myself but the technical and atmospherical aspects are clearly on your side. The music is very suitable for that kind of video. But somehow I've come to like your video for what it is, and not just because its you. *loses respect*. The idea of a serious drama is something different I have to say, altough I just saw like 2-3 Gravitation video, but those were quite the opposite of yours. The quality of image and sound is ok too. There are some flickering borders and the filesize is a bit large for such a slow video but I guess you already noticed that.
The editing is really the best thing about the video, the mask makes it more gloomy and serious and the cuts are solid and not to fast so it's rather a dark n' dreamy video (which is a good thing) just the end was a bit strange (the dog like Herb mentioned it). And since I'm german I can tell that most of the lyrical sync is quite good, but I don't know the series so maybe I get some things wrong. How cares ...
.
Ok, where is the rest of those shonen ai / yaoi fangirls
This is something for you

A gentleman, aren't we?Warheart wrote:Ok since you don't get much replies I think I should post my opinion.

That's great, and oh - well don't worry. I don't think that's a bad thing, even for a homophobic. You can lose all the respect you want, I'll win it back anyway.Warheart wrote: The fact that it's Shonen Ai makes it a bit strange for homophobics like myself but the technical and atmospherical aspects are clearly on your side. You're right, I didn't give much about the technical stuff, that would've been too much JCD-Style. That's why I stopped working on the encoding details when it looked ok to me.Warheart wrote: The idea of a serious drama is something different I have to say, altough I just saw like 2-3 Gravitation video, but those were quite the opposite of yours. I can asure you that there is not really a posibillity of misjudging the lyrical synching since it's not a "complex" storyline in that matter. About the dog....well.....It's cute c'mon, it's one of the last and important scenes, and I couldn't have stopped with the bad end of just showing Yukis suicide attempt....and....it's still cute.Warheart wrote: The editing is really the best thing about the video, the mask makes it more gloomy and serious and the cuts are solid and not to fast so it's rather a dark n' dreamy video (which is a good thing) just the end was a bit strange (the dog like Herb mentioned it). Yeah, right, where are they? They are supposed to give me hugs. Lots of hugs. Well, thank you very much for your opinion Warheart - I'm glad you liked it ... kinda liked it despite the fact of the guys kissing each other :pWarheart wrote: Ok, where is the rest of those shonen ai / yaoi fangirlsThis is something for you
