Neji and Naruto's futures... not just a typical action vid

Post by otbwavelength » Sat Dec 11, 2004 8:34 am

Naruto Vs. Neji Fight
Mindless Self Indulgence - Futures
Action + Serious + Other

This is my 1st amv i've ever made, so yeah.. but i've spent probably over 100 hours at least on it. The time spent wasn't doing insane special effects or something like that (although i use a lot of them at good times, from what people have told me);

it's because I, being a drummer, obsessively went nuts trying to time every single beat and word down to lip synching and timing and etc. so this is a huge timing + special effects video + action.

It goes a bit deeper than that though; I also wanted to use Mindless Self Indulgence's "Futures" because i thought the track title, and words fit the song pretty good.

I go into further explanation of why this is in the video description though, so just head on over there to read the rest;

yeah.. this definitely isn't a typical action video though, like I said in the title of this post.

I switched up the battle's original flow (i.e. the way the battle took place) in a lot of places, almost re-organizing the entire two episodes but yet the same main plot points happen in the same areas.

Give the video a bit of time, even watch it twice before really judging it because its slightly slow to start, and at the end the lyrics blending with the action sometimes happens so fast you may need to re-watch it to notice what really happened.

I am also happy to report I did not cross fade or blend a SINGLE TIME in this video :) a lot of people say this is a very cheap/newbie thing to do in AMV's, so yeah, i made it the entire time without doing this once. (yes i used color balance to fade to black but only four or three times during the entire video.)

definitely leave your opinion though.. i want to know if have any talent at AMV's, if i need to work on it, if i should make more, etc.

Hmm..
The video did not stand out your explained concept to me.
I felt it was another action video with only fight scenes used in the whole AMV.
The editing was pretty decent, with some interlacing/macroblocking issues here and there.
Good job.

do you watch naruto though..? those three concepts are the ones that are the main focus of those two episodes (the ones i explained in the video comments).

that's why i said in doing this fight, they are fighting to prove thier points (in the episodes) about each other's futures; that's why i picked this song.

dude that rocked! Besides the interlace problems with the video I thought it was an insanely good first video. You captured the beats really well. Usually I complain about the effects you used, but it worked really well with this msi song. One thing I didnt like was how the end never really faded to black fully :? Other than that this was a solid short video

thanks a lot :) yeah i know the interlace problems suck, bleh.

as for the ending, i couldn't decide how to do that, because if i freeze framed it or slowed down his feet landing, they wouldn't be on beat, and the music ended right there so... it would have been kind of akward.

I did that last part though (and yes the song has that pause) like that because it's just like the fight; there is this long pause where you think neji has won, and then bam...

I read and watch Naruto.
I understand what's going on in the episodes-
but the AMV itself only had fight scenes.
Their futures didn't really stand out to me concept-wise.

In the video, true, it wasn't showing them talking about it etc. but if you look at other amv's and you know what's going on, you get the concept of what they're trying to say even though they aren't. aka take toushin for example as a naruto video.

constantly throughout that video it makes references, sometimes vague, sometimes crystal clear as to what the scene depicts.

in my video, the parts where it's saying "no future future future future" etc. is at first basically neji saying to naruto (although you aren't SEEING him say it; he's saying it by beating naruto) that naruto has no future, he is a drop out, he will never be hokage.

the whole "my dick's the bomb" line is again, neji boasting, saying he is superior, he dominates naruto etc.

then naruto fights back and tells neji through the same line he used towards him (in the song, that is) that by naruto winning, neji has no future if he continues with his way of thinking that he is always going to be superior because it's fate.

True, none of this is directly said in the AMV, but since you watch the episodes, you'd know that those points were the main points of the fight itself, the opinions trying to be stated, etc.

and just like in Toushin (the amv) there are many clips with words going to them that make sense if you see the clip itself within the episode, but may not unless you know the series outside of the amv.

that was long as hell.. just trying to explain my point, heh.

Think of it as they're speaking with fighting.. just like most wars are. -_-

yeah, good video if you take it apart and analyze it
but i honestly find it hard to listen to that band in a serious way so that may have hurt the video for me

but it's hard to get stuff out of them saying 'no future future future future'

from what i remember, neji tells naruto he can never become hokage cause he doesn't have what it takes already, he's a loser cause that's what he was and that's what he'll always be.... and naruto wales on him for it ^_^

but since it's not DIRECTLY said, taking 'no future....' in that context is what has to be done... it just takes effort to see it... and our polling this year tells us that yes... effort is hard
If you're reading this, you've gone too far...PREPARE FOR RETRIBUTION!!
Don't judge an AMV by it's anime.. u nooB ;D

right, see that's what i was trying to get across.

but i'm not gonna deny it; that's just the secondary thought. it IS an action/timing effects video at heart, but it's my first try, so expect more from me if you guys think ive got talent at all. :X
