(possible) video card problem
whenever i play a amv that has bright flashes, or anythng that isnt heavily shaded, i get a organized set of squares in the video window area and its just a white square. im sure its not the video itself, because it played fine two weeks ago. it seemed to have started when i was playing doom 3, when it decided i had played too long, and died, leaving me with a screen that was..... interesting. half of it was lost in individual squares, and the other was just gone. i think it might be my video card since the moniter is reasonably new, i didnt touch anything besides the key board and mouse since ive bought it, and that was about two years ago. its a radeon 9700.

what do you mean by "Catalyst drivers"? ive never come across the term in all the time ive been playing with the codecs. i have windows xp home edition, and ive tried sp2 before, and i refuse to punish myself with that thing again. its got some nice features, but it doesnt like anything i do very much, and i dont want to fight it every step of the way. about reinstalling the driver's, ive recently formatted my computer, and ive had tons of problems getting individual videos to play, like Hard knock anime, while all other mpeg 2 videos seem to work fine. do you have any idea why that would pop up? no answer ive gotten before has been helpful, codec packs, individual codecs, nothing. ive checked the coded wtih gspot and get a message that seems to say nothing is wrong.

Your kidding right?
Catalyst Drivers are your video drivers. They are what lets your video card operate with your operating system. A good way to fix any video problem is to make sure these are up to date. Well, most of the time. Since you have an ati card, here is where you can get the latest drivers for your card:
Catalyst driver for Win XP Home
Now these require you to have Win XP SP2. Don't tell me your not going to install this patch because running Windows without patching it is pure idiosy. Well, running any program without patching it is pure idiosy. It is an upgrade patch so it will make your computer run better. I know because it made mine run faster, and it is more stable. That is what it is meant for.
Now if updating the drivers doesn't work we can try something else.

That is a high possiblilty, seeing as how he didn't even know the name of his video drivers.
This comes with SP2, I think...
But if not here is the site where it can be downloaded:
DirectX 9.0c
You need this in order to run graphics, video, ect.

Just noticed I worded this completely wrong, and didn't complete what I was going to say. It should say:Brolly345 wrote:That is a high possiblilty, seeing as how he didn't even know the name of his video drivers.
A DirectX problem is a high possibility. Since he didn't know what the video drivers were called than he might not know what this is either.
Should have noticed that earlier.

ive tried reformatting, installing the Catalyst Drivers, sp2, and checking the ATI site, and still the same problem. I reinstalled directx, and still nothing has changed. this is one of the videos that i seem to have the problem with, maybe its just this video, but it seems to appear im about a third of all my videos, and i dont remember it happening before.
