Manga 2 Anime

Post by cao cao of wu » Fri Sep 03, 2004 9:24 am

I just wanted to know what people think about manga to anime conversion and for some reason 90% really sux. Not to say that some r spot on like ranma but this rare and in most cases u get crap like real bout high school which just make there own plot (tell me why a dragon :( )
In some rare cases the anime is actully better like excel saga and nadesico. But still even really good series like love hina or gto some how get screwed up like changing the order of the plot. And in order to get by censorship lets just add monsters (samurai deeper kyo). It not that i don't like anime it just compared with their manga conuterpart they often fall short.

i guess you think of anime as an alternate was of telling the story....if the anime was exactly the same as the manga....then its all too predictable (can be good or bad as you just mentioned)....& being different... i guess more people are encouraged to buy them to see how it is different...i dont mind anime being different to the manga because it can extend the story...

I've only read two manga, Love Hina and Naruto, so I only have those two to compare with.
Naruto is bang on, with the exception of the occasional filler episode, so I consider that a good converison. Especially since the action is so much more lively when you can actually see it in full motion.
Love Hina on the other hand is considerably different then its manga, and I have to say I liked the manga much better. However, I did still liked the anime. I guess just so long as its not a travesty, I'm happy either way. I'll just like one more then the other that's all.

It really varies though. Sometimes anime changes can be a good thing.

Myself, all I hope for right now is that they keep 'Monster' as good as the manga...
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I'll say this. Gonzo tend to suck at manga to anime conversions. With the exception of Saikano (I think), check out Hellsing, Chrono Crusade, Full Metal Panic, and Real Bout Samurai Girl (though I don't know if the conversion of Gatekeeepers is good). :?

Isn't Hellsing another case in which the manga wasn't finished yet when they decided to make the series? And yeah, I often find the manga funnier, and it looks like the plot is going to end up better, but I don't think it's got quite as much of Victoria trying to deal with being a vampire, which I consider a nice dramatic theme.

A number of comedic devices that are found in manga don't translate to anime well. Example: narrator jokes or arguments with the characters.

That and the drawing in anime is not as good as the manga.
This usually happens most of the time when you read the manga first. Well at least for me
But what the hey, anime is still great.

Tend not to be critical of the anime because nearly all are made after the manga starts and finished before the manga ends.
Not a good combination for timeline purists.
Personally like anime more and I only read manga to get the “back-story” or the details that may be missing in the anime.

The aspects of both productions are unique so comparing them wholly is impossible.

Moreover sometimes it’s actually anime or OVA first and then the manga, so the differences make sense.
Still believe in the creator’s freewill to do whatever they deem best because I want to see all there is to be offered.

In the end it’s not a case of being the anime being good or bad but your take on the whole “conversion” business.
As long as both co-exist (and they will), I’m good.
