Yami no Matsuei: death and violins! whee!

Post by SarahtheBoring » Wed Aug 25, 2004 6:39 pm

Listing and local download
Title: Danse Macabre
Anime: Descendants of Darkness (Yami no Matsuei)
Song: Vanessa-Mae - Contradanza

Wanted to try an instrumental video, so... Yami no Matsuei and violins. I mean, obviously. It leans more toward the fast side of drama than the slow side, although it's not an action video. (There can be no car chases, because there are no cars.)

This is essentially an introduction to the series, or a summary of the first one and a half arcs - Nagasaki File and half of Devil's Trill. It's got angst and torture and prettyboys and demons and magic and all that good stuff. Not too many spoilers.

Enjoy!

Neat. One of these days, I *WILL* get around to watching Yami no Matsuei. I swear... (downloads)

By the way, major props for a Vanessa-Mae song.

Yes, do. It's only 13 episodes, and the animation is lovely.

Thanks!

Thanks a lot, guys! Glad you liked it.

I put a good amount of work into it, so I do think it's a tad better than my usual boring stuff. But I don't want to be a self-promoter, so. :P

I tend to like your 'usual stuff,' and I adored your last vid, so does this mean I'll love this? ^__^

Downloading. ^.~

Yep, loved that one. It mixed in the dark with the cute of YnM - I love vids that manage to cross 'genre' like that - to take an anime as a whole. I think my favorite parts were Hijiri playing the violin (with the semi-psychotic backgrounds), the layered scenes (and the fast rolling clip cuts toward the middle/end of the vid), and the way you had the characters running for a certain type of music (don't know enough about music to know what to call that sound, but it came off as cute to me, in a good way).

If I ever get the heart to review again, this one will be at the top of my list. ^.~

Great video, I even left an opnion. Very well done, I love the music you chose. Vanessa Mae's music rules.

Glad that worked. Though the sections are just how they came up in my mind from the start - the introduction, two cases, Muraki, rescue mission, and vaguely homoerotic bonding. (although early on *rambling now* it was going to introduce Hisoka first because that repetition of the melody is higher - thank goodness I switched those around.) If anything this is a tad less dark than the series; it doesn't get into the cruise-ship-serial-killer / severed-head-in-a-jar story arcs later in the series.

sigh of relief! I was thinking if any one part of the vid would fall flat, that fast part would be it. I tried like mad to get that part right, so whew. Good to hear. I feared fast cuts until this video, most of the time.

I should know that, but I don't. A theme? maybe? That was intentional, at any rate, having the team run off on the job together one time around, and Tsuzuki having to do it by himself later on. Also introducing Muraki when the melody became entirely different and dominated by guitar instead of violin. (See, without lyrics to obsess over, I obsess over everything else. )

Heck, that comment practically is a review, so thanks.
