You are very correct, but I was only joking.madbunny wrote:Wrong.oldwrench wrote:I was born to soon.
You have the chance to watch as our entire civilization changes and metamorphoses into something unique and new. With the advent of technology our world is changing and shrinking as it his few times before. The only recent parallel that I can think of would be the introduction of mechanised transportation at the beginning of the century. Our technology is expanding in such a way as to let todays youth learn and share at an unprecedented rate.
While not perfect, just the fact that we can have something like this forum with members from all over the planet participating and sharing similar likes would have been unthinkable only a few years ago. Some of our members (for that matter some of my students) are making videos of a quality that rivals major studios in terms of quality and skill. I am contantly amazed at the creative spirit that I see on this site.
Had you been born later, then you would be 'part' of the changing system and not see the larger picture. If you were too old, then you wouldn't be able to appreciate what you see. I had a Grandmother that was born in 1904. She watched the world change around her and turn into something familiar and comfortable into what we have today. Are comptuters the new 'airplane' or 'automobile'? Only time will answer that one.

There was no need for that type of post.madbunny wrote:Wrong.oldwrench wrote:I was born to soon.

You mean discs haven't always been shiny?oldwrench wrote:Are you asking about those round black discs, with grooves, that make music?rogueintellectproductions wrote:I'm 31, and only started making videos a few months ago (is that a record?)
Having been a techno junkie all my life, I envy the young people, all the high tech "toys" at your diposal, and so many years to grow with them.
So when does tech become part of the societal instinct? Cars, television, computers, among other inventions - they've become so pervasive that people intuitively know the basic principles behind them. Computers especially - in the last 20 years we've developed a new means of communication, complete with its own etiquette and language. It's almost as if babies are born knowing that a semicolon and a close parenthesis can be merged to make a winky face.
Bringing it back on-topic, I think this instinct that the 25-and-under generation has developed affects narrative style more than anything else. Tech has made available new methods of storytelling, both linear and nonlinear, and new methods of delivering a story. After all, used to be you had to be published in order for lots of people to read your stuff.
So anyway, back on-topic again. I don't think age has much to do with the ability to make a good video; I do think it affects what kind of videos one makes, though.
Or not. I have expended many words and have returned to the original question of this thread without providing an answer. But I did get to work both my fascination with shinies and the term "winky face" into a conversation, so I am happy.
CPFuller, out!
To paraphrase one Mr. Cool James, please refrain from referring to it as a revival, I've been lurking for ages.

Started at 17...... now I'm 22...
Hmmmm.... are the first amvs always the most fun at any age? I know I'd be having a blast if I started at 7 (The age I was when I got my NES).
I was just starting college and was pressured into getting my first job at 17 but I still found amvs very fun when I was doing them.
