Even if subbing can be done using a "cute technical hack".Declan_Vee wrote:Letters! aren't! cheap!JHU Battousai wrote:And Rhyevaln, I'm really not sure what you mean by resubbing being more expensive?

Woohoo!
I for one welcome the chance to get spectacular-looking Eva source footage without having to sell my kidney for the Renewal box set.
Rhyevaln, you need to calm down. I'd say your analogy is the perfect description for the current release of Evangelion, considering the mediocre video quality within the R1s. Yes, the market is saturated with Evangelion-everything, and all of you fanboys are bitching and moaning about the live-action movie based solely on highly fluid data (i.e. production sketches and damned little else), but that doesn't change the fact that Eva, love it or hate it, has had one of the biggest impacts on the anime scene, both here and in Japan.
I'll probably end up remaking Warning as soon as I have the entire Platinum Collection (might be my post-Tokyo project, so call it Summer '05). My message to ADV? About damned time.

I knew my patience would pay off eventually!
After passing up numerous chances to buy Evangelion for the past five years I knew that Renewel would be coming out eventually!

Ah yes, patience pays off.. *Looks at collection of VHS tapes that cost him $320 way back when* I'm really in need of an update to my worn out VHS's, but I may wait some more so the price goes down. I'm not looking too forword to paying half of what I did back in 97-98 for something I've seen numerous times. Not to mention many AMV's.Jebadia wrote:Heh, same hereJ-0080 wrote:BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Why does everyone think I am not calm? Just because I am highly opinionated means I have some sort of anger managment problem? I am guilty of using bold text and fake cussing, but it was only a small blurb about the movie and there isn't a single exclamation point in the entire post. I had no intention of coming across as crass or angry. I apologize if it came out that way.dokool wrote:Rhyevaln, you need to calm down.
My bad, I meant Dubbing. A slip-up on my part. (that s is to close to d on the keyboardRhyevaln wrote:(i.e. Resubbing a whole series that will probably cost more than subbing 4 new ones).
JHU Battousai: I don't see how subbing is expensive either...
I am only bitching and moaning about the LA movie because dokool is totally correct when he says:
And it is completely animated (until the movies then it's 99% animated). In my opinion, that's why anime is so great - cause it isn't live action. The only reason I see why making a LA would be a good idea is to milk fans out of money....that Eva, love it or hate it, has had one of the biggest impacts on the anime scene, both here and in Japan...
Although I agree that the current footage isn't as crisp or vibrant as I would like (for editing). There are filtering methods available when making AMV's to make it better. (I don't know how, I've only seen the before/after frames and it's incredible) However, for viewing, I think that the current footage has character to it that separates it from the newer anime. But that's crazy berserker me.
Don't hate me. I luv you all.

Re: ...ack
well i don't think they're doing that either, i'm sure they're just cleaning up the audio and making it 5.1, not making the actors re-dub the series... now THAT would be expensiveRhyevaln wrote:My bad, I meant Dubbing. well IF i get the platinum version, it'll only be through borrowing someone else's 8)
i already have my boxset, it may look and edit like crap, but meh... i haven't made any eva videos yet, so when the time comes, THEN i'll bitch and moan... then i'll learn to clean footage
anyways, more importantly, this new platinum version mentions nothing of a spanish or french dub track, NOTHING!!!... i really like the fact that my dvds have those extra tracks... i know spanish and have spanish speaking relatives, so it's good when they don't know english
...though i'd really like to hear those commentaries

Rhyevalyn, regarding your sig - it's Inigo, not Indigo. I hereby charge you with the gravest of crimes against humanity, that of bastardizing a character's name from The Princess Bridge...
Also, they aren't going to be completely re-dubbing the entire series (I don't think ANY company could get away with that), but they're adding cast/crew commentary tracks.
Finally, regarding these 'filtering methods' (Any links to comparison screenshots?), I'd still take Renewal footage over filtered R1 footage. Renewal is how Eva was meant to be viewed, and any alterations to the R1 footage are needless when you have a superior alternative.
