Bloomington, IN (Reuters)

A press release issued today by the Kinsey Institute outlined the findings of a recent study carried out together with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention over the last year. The study was conducted on adult materials marketed towards minors and the subsequent effects on disease prevention and teenage pregnancies. While similar studies have been conducted in the past, none have been so recent nor have they produced the shocking results of this most recent study.

A popular subculture phenomenon called anime has been taking steady rise over the last 5 years. With the advent of DVD and the Internet niche products have been able to take hold faster and with greater accessibility than ever before. Anime, or Japanese Animation, is a stylized art form, which covers many different genres as opposed to common children's animation in the United States. A particular subgroup of anime, which has enjoyed critical success in recent years, is called Hentai and it is a graphic adult animation that covers the same material that modern day pornography does as well as going far beyond it with the freedoms that animation allows. It is important to note that the Kinsey-CDC has not conducted studies on retail marketing efforts of directing minors to Hentai material but rather the focus of the study was an approach that found a connection from the minors to the source and then subsequently examined Hentai material and minors.

The Kinsey-CDC study examined the influences of Hentai and found that characters in 95% of Hentai are minors. In these Hentai, sex is only consensual about 20% of the time, protection is only used about 1% of the time, and birth control is used 0% of the time. The report indicates that this evidence is quite dangerous and cannot be labeled as simple fantasy for adult entertainment as the hentai programs have proven immensely popular with minors. In a poll of 8,500 animation fans between the ages of 13-17 carried out at various anime subculture conventions across the United States, participants were asked to pick all the anime from a list of 100 titles that they had personally watched. Several hentai titles were on this list and the majority of them ranked in the top 40 with more than a 50% viewing share. Three titles stood out the most: Bible Black with 90% share; Immoral Sisters with 85% share; Princess 69 with 75% share. Furthermore these two titles contain mostly graphic depictions of non-consensual sex, no birth control, and no sexual disease protection. Based on the current press release information regarding the correlations between the viewing of this material and effects on safe-sex practices and teenage pregnancies have yet to be released but it can only be imagined that these materials are influencing many impressionable youth.

Three organizations: Planned Parenthood, the Health Department, and the National Institute of Child and Human Development have already asked retailers to discontinue carrying Hentai products until further studies can be conducted regarding how so many minors have had access as well as even becoming aware of a niche market material such as Hentai.

Well that was very interesting. I have but one thing to say In reg porn they don't show anyone using birthcontrol either whats up with that and anyways cartoons don't get STDs or get pregnant..... The only people who should be watching these is someone whom is of age and can grasp the concept that it is just a cartoon.

But the disclaimer at the start of the DVD always says all characters depicted are over the age of 18. They've just been held back in Jr. High a few years, right?

what amuses me is that bible black is on the same shelf with normal anime at my video store....actually its near disney stuff too

and no, im not joking =/ I guess the owners dont know what it is and sense its anime they just assumed it was DB-ish or some shit lol
