I'm guilty as well, although I didnt give myself all 10's.

For me it was giving myself an honest evaluation of how the video turned out in the end, so other people could see what the creator thought of it. In many cases, the creator is the biggest critic, unless he's/she's inflating his scores for top ten points. Even the worst flamers only pointed out what I was already aware of. Anyway, reviewing your own vid only decreases your credibility at any rate (unless you just pan it), and its not worth doing, not even if you are one op away from top ten "stardom."

Allthough, after putting in a couple months of work (or more), its only natural that you would want your video to get recognition and a large audience, but self review is not that way to accomplish that. Taking time, building credibility, and taking your AMV to a con is the safest bet, if you even care about how well your video does (a lot of people dont and think those that do are strange and insecure). Not that I'm calling you insecure, or at least your not as insecure as I am proported to be. :)

In almost every case, self-reviewing = self-glorification.
It's just sad and lame.

Totally unrelated to the topic, but I just wanted to compliment you on some major improvements since the last thread where people flamed you on this. I know some will say I'm coming across as condescending, but I'm really trying to compliment you here since, IIRC you had a pretty flame-ridden thread awhile ago where you complained about the top 10% and so on.

To be a bit on topic, if you go to the most underrated link:

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/lists/underrated.php

you'll see that Phade explicitely says he's fine with reviewing your own video:

"Ratio = number of downloads / number of opinions
1 opinion minimum to get on the list
(Remember, you can give your own opinion to count as the one. =)"

Obviously that's just one instance though and obviously used only so you can be considered to be on that list. It says nothing of inflation and abuse which is more common with this type of self-grading.

I just ran around my University, came back and saw dwchang had posted. I literally said "ah crap." No surprise whatsoever that you quoted me either, I was like "here it comes!"

And you didn't flame me this time. Hallelujah!

As far as self-review, in the future I'll leave my self review in the AMV description box (which is pretty much what that is for), that way everyone can see it (not just those that left a review). Also that way no one can accuse me of inflating my scores. As far as the insane "kearly's Revenge" debacle, that started out as a vent about the opposite type of questionable review practices, and it became a flamefest, or as a friend put it "Richard Nixon in a 3 ring circus." It took about 2 weeks to die.

Well you gave me no reason to flame you and re-installed my faith in you :-P. Not to say I won't disagree with you on things, but regardless I don't flame for no apparent reason or so I hope.

I don't review my own videos. This is something I've never really understood with people. Why release it if your not completely thrilled with it? I only release a video when I feel its the absolute best thing I can make at the time so naturally I think very highly of it.

If I were to review my own videos I'd give them all tens.

I don't think, in that case, that they'd ever have been released.
