It might not be the player itself. I would assume it's because you don't have the right codecs. The XviD Codec is what I recommend installing first of all. That's what some people encode their videos with.

I know Euphoria, at least, is not a "Windows Media" file. Those files have .WMV (if it includes video) or .WMA (if it's only audio) extensions. Also, nobody seems to like those formats, even though WMA sounds better than MP3 in my opinion, at least at low bitrates (but, of course, Ogg Vorbis sounds even better).

You're probably thinking of Video for Windows, which is .AVI. In that case, as Pie Row said, you probably don't have the right codec installed.

One of the reasons editing with a WAV is better

Don't forget that some people (most WMM2 users) have no other choice.

Also, I've noticed that the WMV9 codec can produce files that are comparable in size and quality to DivX/XviD. Too bad Windows Media Encoder 9 won't take WMM2 project files (as far as I know). Now that would be really useful.

And there's also the compatibility issue (that is, that MPEG and DivX/XviD beat WMV by a nice margin as far as compatibility goes).

True, my apologies to those who have no access to better means.

Of course the REAL bad touch is Real Media.

I use wmm 2.0 and I compress to mpg or xvid (sometimes divx but not lately). :? It *is* possible to convert without killing quality...

I think I get this as well. Some files (more and more) try to open up automatically in IE and then fail and I'm redirected to microsofts website. I have the xvid codecs, div x codecs, windows media 9, and even some crazy moon light codec. I'm getting really tired of this..

example file:

I don't know what type of file you gave (that love panic), but if the vid is trying to open rather than download, it isn't a codec issue. It's a problem with your media player trying to stream the video (play it rather than download the file). Usually you can change this in your media player's settings.
