ATTN: M:I and other Project Coordinators
I'm mainly looking for M:I 1 and 2... but I'll take any other collaborative AMV projects...
I'm hoping to get some kind of collaborative project viewing block at AnimeNext, or at least fill some time by showing them. The con is Oct. 3-5th in Rye, NY.
I posted up a message about this months back, but no-one responded. I found that interesting, since everyone always seems MORE than interested in getting these shown at a con :/
I'd like to get MPEG-2 masters of ANY of these that I can to show. I know the M:I projects have them to pass out to cons for showing.
Can I get them somehow... say... in the next couple days? AIM transfer, IRC transfer, FTP... whatever. I just wanna get my hands on them. It would be great if I could get them by Saturday night, since I'm heading over to Scott's to compile the AMV contest onto SVHS, then...
Here's what I'm aware of and would take:
- Mission:Improbable 1
- Mission:Improbable 2
- Jet Set Radio Project
I've already got DDR1 and 2, obviously. If there are any other projects... and you HAVE MPEG-2 MASTERS YOU CAN GIVE ME... let me know.
Don't just tell me to download your distro versions... I want the masters so everything will look/sound as great as it possibly can.

There's a reason the M:I's aren't hosted on the donut. That's cause I wanted to preserve quality and resolution. That being said, the files listed are Roughly 130 megs apiece, and I'm not keeping the 15gb masters on my HDDs. If you want higher qual versions... well hit me up on aim, but when I saw the distro versions on the big screen at Ushicon, they looked superb.

Danny: I don't see what the problem with keeping MPEG-2 masters would be. I mean, they're only about 10 minutes each, right? That's well under a gig per file :/
I could go through the process of telecining the distro versions and re-encoding them... but that just makes no sense if something already exists.

I honestly don't have any mpeg2 masters. If I did You'd be the first to have them. The only time I've dealt with mpeg2 is when I absolutely had to(NES), I personally don't like the standard at all myself. I'll try to get something to ya at AWA.

Wow.. that's... confusing. How do you do things for conventions? MPEG-2 is not only the standard for DVDs, but just general playing-back these days (I know Quu uses a Netstream card, I and several other people who run contests use either that or a regular ol' Hollywood card).Dannywilson wrote:The only time I've dealt with mpeg2 is when I absolutely had to(NES), I personally don't like the standard at all myself.
I *could* just re-encode the video myself for playback... but that's not fair to either myself or the people involved in the actual videos. I know *I* wouldn't want someone re-encoding my stuff to play back.
I also say this because the distro version is at 24 fps. That means I'd have to slow down the audio to 23.976 timebase, change the frame-rate on the video, telecine the video to re-encode... not to mention getting it up to 720x480 from the get-go...
That's just a headache, and something I would assume the coordinator(s) would have ahead of time.
How did other conventions play-back the video(s) for airing at the con? I'm curious...
Well... I'm doing all the SVHS-exporting this Sunday, so unless I have it by then, it's a no-go. For something COMPLETE like the NES-project and/or DDR3, I'd be more than happy to take a S/VHS/DVD of it at the con, since they're their own stand-alone, long-time-running projects.Dannywilson wrote:I'll try to get something to ya at AWA.
Thanks for the offer, though...

Why are you doing SVHS at all? Why not just do a playlist off a computer? If it's a standard digital projector(95% of conventions), it doesn't matter what the framerate input is, it projects the same framerate to the screen; it's not limited by the television standard, and interlacing will actually make it look worse. I ran the tech for the AMV panel at AnimeFest, and all the videos came out to their native 24(23.967)fps on a projector that was nearing 4 years old by the looks of it. Besides, you lose color data, sound quality, and parts of your borders when you convert to tape, even with a (relatively) good standard like SVHS.
