Longed for Him. Got him. Shit. - Margaret Atwood

First off, this video is 1600x480. That's not a mistype, that's actually it's resolution. If your monitor is smaller than that, just let your playback program resize it. I'm quite sure the preview will look like shit though. So I intend to ask that it be disabled on this video for that reason. If you see a preview available before it can be disabled, please don't watch it and actually download the video instead.

The idea for this video came from two things. First was one day I was wondering why every video is 4:3 or 16:9. Computers can play back non-standard resolution, there is no reason we *MUST* stick with the standards. So I was thinking of ways to do someone that isn't the traditional rectangle we all know. Awhile later I ran into Sad Song by Fredo Viola and loved the style.

Once I had a decent idea for the style, then I had to decide what type of vid I was going to do. I considered action, I think the style would work well with that, but eventually I decided on romance. I figured if I'm going to be playing with something unusual, there's no reason I shouldn't really challenge myself and try editing outside my normal genres.

Fast forward several years, and I finally started editing. After a few months work, I had 30 seconds left I needed to edit. After even more months of not doing a damned thing, I still had 30 seconds left to edit. Eventually I joined a contest just to give myself a deadline. Which goes to explain why my video is torturing viewers at AKROSS despite having no connection to the Russian community. Technically I think I'm not supposed to release here until the AKROSS contest is done. But that'll be another couple months and screw it, I wanna be absolutely done with this including release. I'm not Alexander Litvinenko, I doubt they'll poison me with polonium-210 for this.

The title comes from a tradition of six word stories. Hemingway was once bet he could not write a complete story in just six words. He won his bet with "For sale: baby shoes, never worn." Since then, other authors occasionally try writing six word stories as well. Margaret Atwood's story was "Longed for him. Got him. Shit." which seemed to be the perfect title to go with a romance video. Hey, at least I didn't have .prpoj in the name this time.

DINORAEP. :dino:

I like this. It is well executed. I'm not too much of a romance guy, so I wasn't able to personally enjoy it all that much, but the design idea and subsequent technical execution added a slight bit of enjoyment due to originality, which deserves a props. 4.5/5

Bravo  This was marvelously done, the concept was brilliant, and I am very much impressed. I don't understand the lyrics, but this video had a very nice feeling and flow. You should definitely submit this to conventions once Akross is over.

You know, that's not exactly the type of video I'd expect from you. Still, I really liked what you did with the non-standard resolution and the AMV overall. Good stuff.

Just avoid me at all possible costs and you'll be fine.

Otherwise, I think you know my thoughts on this video. I would say that it aimed to do precisely one thing in a fresh and interesting way, and in that it totally succeeded. It's surprisingly enjoyable to watch and re-watch for me, and I think the visual interplay between various panes worked out really great.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

The guilty secret is that I don't understand the lyrics either. Although part of the song I cut was in english, so I got a general idea at least.

As for submitting to other cons, I dunno. I very intentionally broke standard resolutions. Forcing it into a standard resolution because that's what a con will require to play it, I dunno. Perhaps if some cons do go with HD projectors like there's talk about.

Awhile ago I got tired of doing nothing but cheap and stupid jokes, so I started doing some serious things now and then. Although I still do cheap and stupid jokes too.

Don't I usually do that anyway?

funny tip: this song repeats the same verse in english, spanish and italian.
I still believe that pegasus is the uggliest creature that anime have ever conceived.
... to be honest when I heard the first notes of this song, it was an "are you fucking kidding me?", then it reminds me of Dreamscape, and finally I was able to realized this is actually telling a story, pretty sweet :dino: and this song have its own magical aura, so is almost impossible for me to don´t like this... I really have no problem with this resolution, even with wmp, it plays nice, where´s the issue??? :amv:

When I first saw this on youtube I fell in love with it.
It's one of my favorite series and this is probably one of the most beautiful videos of it. You really made justice to this anime.
The song is beautiful. The technique is really original and it's kinda perfect for the way you tell this story.
I'm just a bit sad that you didn't stick with the same technique till the end, but I still find this video perfect and awesome <3

I don't think I thought about Dreamscape once while editing this. However, I can see why a viewer would. Plus Dreamscape is a good video anyway, so thanks for the comparison.

As for the resolution, it's just simple math. 1600x480 is what the video is. I'd be willing to release down to 800x240 if need be, although I don't think there is a need. Below that and the vertical resolution is just too damned small and I think it looks bad, which is my issue with preview.

Thank you. The ending style thing was meant to A) not be boring repeating the same trick the entire time and B) to give a more open and free feeling once they become a couple. When you say on youtube, I'm assuming you mean the AKROSS youtube channel?
