'Pale Light' - Final Fantasy IX

Post by Aerialesque » Tue Oct 31, 2006 10:40 pm

I've already made a post in the op exchange forum about my new video, but I figured I'd actually 'announce' it here. ;D

'Pale Light'
Video: Final Fantasy IX
Audio: 'Pale' - Within Temptation

It's a character profile centering around Garnet/Dagger, but I guess it can also be considered a romance video, as well (Garnet/Zidane, of course). It's a slow paced amv matched with a beautiful, heartfelt song...I hope you all enjoy. Comments/criticism in any shape or form would be very much appreciated. ^^

The link is in my signature. :)

This AMV was wonderful to watch :D . It had a beautiful song with a that I could understand even though I have never touched Final Fantasy 9. I went into watching this not knowing what to expect and left extremely impressed ^.^.

Hmm... I've been trying to vaguely follow your AMVs since you joined the site, so of course I had to download this one.

This is definitely your best one yet with synching. I think you have it down very well now, and it's miles of improvement from your first video. You were always talented with creating stories and concepts with your videos from the beginning, and this one is no exception. Great song choice, and it matches wonderfully with FFIX (although it seems that IX and Within Tempation's music go together naturally).

For some nitpicks...

Video quality was good, but the resolution was small. I realize that you probably ripped it at 320x224, but with the right Avisynthing, you should be able to bump up the resolution a bit and still keep the good quality.

On a personal note, I didn't like the gray-to-color thing that you kept doing when the second verse kicked in. Also, the black borders during the Atomos scene seemed unrelated to the rest of the video. Were you just trying out new effects?

In any case, this was still a very good video, both in concept and editing. Nice job~! ^_^

I was hoping that you would take a look at this one. :) I'm very glad to hear that I've improved a lot, that alone is one of the best comments I could receive.

As for the quality...I was debating whether I should increase the resolution or not, but I didn't think the quality looked good enough, so I left it as it was. In my next Final Fantasy project, I'll focus even more on cleaning up the footage, and working with avisynth filters (this was only the first project that I tried using them) so it will be suitable at a higher resolution.

I was waiting for someone to mention the border effect that I put in during the scene with Atomos. ;D To be honest, I kept feeling like there needed to be something more during that section, so I just threw that effect in. I wish I didn't, though, because I agree with you...it looks out of place. I actually thought the fading in and out from bw to color worked well during the second verse, though...ah, well.

Thank you so much for your constructive criticism, and your positive comments. I appreciate it! ^^
