Lose 200 megs in a week!
Heh, more like it's a thick burger being sat on by an elephant - the contents are still there but beware of how smushed it'll be if it's a really fat elephant sitting on it.
And before you hit the problem - you can't convert DV AVI files with VirtualDub - you can't open them. You need to make an avisynth script in order to open those files in Vdub, and I take it you don't know anything about avisynth. Your options? You can read that guide Scintilla linked you to, install avisynth and write your script telling VirtualDub to use the DirectShow filter to open the file. Or, you can use something else. Last I checked, TMPGEnc won't open DV AVI files, either.
Try doing a google search for WinMPG Convert - if you're vid is short (under 5 mins) it'll compress it without it looking too bad. That's if you're in a hurry and never planning to use DV AVI ever again (most other editing programs let you save the video as huffyuv, and that's the best way to do it). If you *do* plan to use DV AVI again, then learn how to make an avisynth script (from that guide) and convert the files to huffyuv, *then* compress them to xvid (with VirtualDub) or mpg (TMPGEnc).
