The Idea, Song Choice
The idea came to me after watching the great anime movie Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time). I wanted to make something with an original story from the beginning. I remember seeing Falling by miss sakura-san and was greatly impressed by the original idea I saw there. This stimulated me to think of a more original twist on the story, something that didn't have so much in common with the original one. After a lot of thinking and listening I finally found a track to work with. I found it in the audio folder of the game Etherlords II (lol), which really is a great game, and remembered listening to it previously and it had a strong influence on me and suited with the atmosphere I was aiming to create. Then listening to the song the storyline formed by itself in my head while listening to the song and I was ready to begin working. The first preperations for the video started on 03 June 2007 and it was finished today (05 December 2007). The project was in a brainfreeze state for some time due to me applying for college.
Editing and Effects
In this video I was aiming mostly to create a depressing atmosphere and suspense, so don't expect to see much tight synching and flashy effects here. A great mistake I made was to import the video as an *.avs script. I wont repeat this mistake ever again! The editing was so hard >.< I still managed though. The video starts with an extract from the original movie, but if you have watched it you will notice that I changed the subtitles so that they covered my original plot. Afterwards the story is told through the lines of the characters. The sync is mostly based on the melody, but it sure took some time to make everything right. But that was the easy part. The most masochistic part was creating, blending and motion tracking the wings of the Angel through the entire video. Afterwards I created the subtitles for the lines of the main characters. Note that the lipflap there is intentional, in fact the lips move in the same way as if they were saying the lines. This aspect was influenced by Aceman's Daydreamer video. I will not comment on the story itself, I think the storytelling is clear enough.
Interesting Facts
* I came up with the original story while lying and relaxing on my girfriend's tummy. ^_^
* The wings I used for the Angel were from Ah My Goddess! - at the first scenes from some random wallpapers I found on my HDD, the sideview ones from a scene in the movie.
* The video's name actually comes from the track I originally planned to work with - ATB's No Fate.
