There's a certain safety net in creating AMVs which are flat-out impossible to misidentify.
I mean really, who the heck honestly would think they'd get away with swiping footage from 'Bustin? The only thing in there worth swiping is my funny sauce, and you'd have to be living in a hole or completely bonkers to lift that and stick it in your own AMV and then show it off and claim it as your own. Nevermind swipe the entire AMV itself.
As for swiping any of the more generic AC scenes...they're not random enough to be serve as random AMV fodder and it would probably be easier/more beneficial to just use scenes from the movie itself rather than swipe footage from my AMV.
Now one thing I am mildly concerned about is XII (read, not at all, however I'm being philosophical right now). If I do what I want to do, there's going to be a large quantity of custom, never-before-seen (lol I typed "scene" at first), WTF-that-wasn't-in-the-series moments. Also maybe some nice looking hot sauce that is just generic enough to be swipable. Also, if I can justify the expense, some professional-quality animation (not by me). I mean, right now my attitude is that if I'm going to make XII, I'd better make DARN sure it's as visually/emotionally interesting as I can possibly make it because the underlying concept isn't anything to write home about. That opens the door to swiping, though.
OMG I'm so going to ruin this AMV. I feel like I want to go around to certain folks who are my editor idols and beg them to make it. But I won't.
I intend to put in some major hours this weekend on this AMV. I'm scared to death, but I have to start somewhere. :| -

Now, after reading that 10 minutes before work, I am going to have to deal with all the associated imagery it conjured up for the rest of the day. THANKS A LOT.

The Ugly: There is no doubt footage I didn't rip that I should have. oh...and all my training courses on AE may not work with Vista. There's something wrong when I have to maintain two PCs just to function normally. I bought this new one so I could streamline my workflow, yet here I am with more superfluous hardware than I ever had to deal with before. I'm going to need a new desk to accommodate all my stuff, soon. :|
Xtra: No matter what series I use for AMVs, there's always something that drives me bonkers. Gankutsuou suffers from an excessive degree of lighting effects and gradients applied OVER the background animation. I can't even remember how many times I've wanted to grab the animators by the throat, shake them back and forth and yell "Gahh!! Just leave it ALONE!!"...and I haven't even started editing yet.
Note to self: Apply gradients and lighting effects to all hot sauce. *grumble grumble* -

ACEN's over with. Now hopefully I can sleep through the night without having disturbing dreams about certain 'ORG members as well as AMVers in general. You'd think with all the time I've spent on AC AMVs I would at least have some really pleasant dreams about Vincent...but no. And he's exactly the kind of guy I go for, too. (Per my second most famous quote: "They don't have to be tall, but they do have to be dark and handsome.") What can I say? I'm picky. Also, my definition of "handsome" is fairly broad...further, I prefer the sort who don't think they're good looking. God forbid I have to deal with a man who's obsessed with his looks. I'm not obsessed with MY looks so there's no way I'm going to put up with that in anyone else, man, woman OR critter.
Next on the list: Erm...not sure if there's anything else. I kind of want to hop off the convention train, now, and the decision may have been made for me due to my failure to RTFM for the final public appearance 'Bustin is shooting for. It's too bad I'm so pathetically bad/slow at editing, otherwise I might consider trying to make XII in time for AWA. If I blasted through it I might be able to finish, though of course I have no idea how good the end product is going to be. I don't relish the thought of going nuts over an AMV I'm not really nuts ABOUT, basically.

Well, we'll see. I'll probably started actually putting XII together next weekend. Stand by for weeks and weeks (months) of hair-pulling, nail-biting, computer-sledgehammering AMV mayhem. I expect at some point that I may give up entirely, which is ok. Part two of my two-part creative philosophy is tossing something if it's not working, regardless of how much time I've spent on it.
