Theft

A fourth Thief game? Yes please, heavy on the 1 and 2, light on the 3. Definitely my all-time favorite game, Thief is. Nothing else even comes close in favoriteness. I even tried my hand at designing my own levels. That was fun, although I never could get too far with anything decent because my computer couldn’t handle it and would always crash and corrupt my files. :|
I’ve been toying around with the idea for making an AMV trailer out of the intro music to the first Thief game for awhile, but so far I haven’t come across any series that a) I’m interested in enough to work with or b) fits the music. A mish-mash of FF7 stuff was a possibility, but SE yanked around the character designs for Sephiroth so much that I’m extremely reluctant to pull a “look, Sephiroth with normal eyelashes, Sephiroth with fake eyelashes!” on the viewer. Plus...enough with the FF7 already, Drift (oh, maybe just once more?) Ergo Proxy was a candidate, but I didn’t really like that series and that’s really starting off on a bad note. Not sure what else would fit, it's got to be slick and stylish, preferably industrialish, unique and dramatic...
Takeout: add two hours or so. I'm having a terrible time with the ending. My grand finale is now suddenly not so grand, since it might undermine the rest of the AMV. It's pretty bad...it was grand because I thought it was clever, but then I realized the entire premise of the AMV is quite UNclever if that's all it's building up to. If I don't do a grand finale, then it might make the video seem a little deeper (which is a hoot, since it's the antithesis of deep).
Right now the finale is sort of like "So, didn't see that coming, huh? What, still don't get it?" *punches you in the nose* No one likes to be punched in the nose. I'll probably end up making a dozen or so different endings and then selecting which looks the best. It's how I made the rest of the AMV, why not the end, too? Maybe put the alternate endings in the credits? That might be interesting. Or would it drag the AMV down even more? Hrm...we'll see. Hate to waste all that footage...
I need to go to bed. 14 hours in front of a computer is BAD.

and the logo contest continues
2008-07-22 12:59:58
Nice variety this year, although I think there's only a handful worth nominating (no, not all mine). I've already picked the one I suspect will win...we'll see if I'm right. I am, however, quite relieved to see mine aren't at the bottom of the barrel as usual (though last year I didn't do too badly). I may be a graphic designer, but logo design is NOT my thing.
It's too bad they weren't presented in a more realistic environment...say...click on a logo and see it as it would look on a site page. What seems to look ok on its own can easily crash and burn when it goes "live" (and vice versa).
@ MC: Fine, it's a crapppy AMV. Actually it's not crapppy, or crappy, or even crapy, but it's so much less than what I wanted it to be, that I can't help feel a little put out. It's a decent 3rd AMV effort, I guess...which stands to reason since it IS my third (real) AMV.

Just saw...commercial...for Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Please, someone, lock George Lucas in a cellar and throw away the key. He's *this* close to destroying my beloved Star Wars beyond any ability to forgive (I'm already trying very hard to forget Episodes I, II and III).
Maybe it's my fault. In ninth grade I solemnly wrote a very long, very detailed explanation for why the world needed more Star Wars movies and (I remember this like it was yesterday) told my English teacher - who unfortunately had to read it with a straight face - that I "believed" in George Lucas and was positive he'd someday take up the torch again.
And look what happened. :(

All you people out there who can turn out nice AMVs without breaking a sweat...I am very, very jealous.

Takeout:
Pre-edit: 12
Edit: 40
The Good: This darn thing is 100% on the timeline, which isn't to say that there aren't sections I'm extremely unhappy with or that need major work...but at least it's all "there." Now I can sit back and see what I've made...
The Bad: ...which is a crappy AMV I'm probably going to spend upwards of 60 hours on (with two p's). It's causing me to seriously consider putting "I SUCK at AMVs" in my sig, except I think it would be misunderstood. The problem - I suspect - is I'm too stuck on coherent storyline, which is difficult to create when the storyline a) doesn't exist in the series and b) is so beyond belief that it's almost automatically doomed to failure. If someone complains about Takeout being too random AMV...I don't know what I'm going to do. It's kind of random, but in a "first a, then b, then c, then oh, whoops, it went over a cliff to get to d" kind of way. Actually, I'll probably just agree with them. :| I find it difficult to support something I think is a pale shadow of what I wanted it to be.
The Ugly: At this rate, I feel like I don't even want to bother trying to make any more AMVs. It's always just fail, fail, fail. I used up all my AMV luck for five lifetimes.
*complain* *whine* *complain*
But hey, at least I'm trying and am not laboring under any kind of delusions about the likely results. *sigh* Back to work.

Hey...
2008-07-18 12:23:31
It just occurred to me that I might be the only person who's ever used Adobe InDesign for an AMV...that's kind of a nifty. There's probably no way to ever confirm this, but still...it's an interesting idea. I could be a pioneer in the realm of InDesign AMVs. :D
Heh, and this could also be known as Adobe Creative Suite abuse. What program DIDN'T I use? Hrm...GoLive. Everything else checks out: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Bridge, Acrobat and Distiller. Plus Premiere and After Effects, of course. Jeez. Why the heck would I use GoLive for video editing? Ohhhh...wait, I know!! *cackles* Maybe someday. Or maybe not, I'd use Dreamweaver.
That reminds me, I have to redo my Web site this weekend. Ugh...I'd happily swap hours of rotoscoping services for site design services. :|
