JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • Beta kinda 2008-07-30 10:15:19 My sister is coming to visit me (the first time in over a year) this weekend, so she'll be the first one to see Takeout. I have no idea what kind of reception it will get...I'm fairly sure it won't be glowing, though. She's never seen what a rough draft AMV looks like and while I personally find it very distracting, for people who don't know what they're watching it can go right over their heads.

So maybe she will like it? I have to say, she's a great person to have watch comedic AMVs because it doesn't take much to get a reaction. She doesn't have an outlandish, finicky sense of humor like I do. It takes a LOT to get me to chuckle, or even smile, fin response to an AMV (nevermind TV shows, movies, etc.), which actually makes it very difficult for ME to judge how funny my own stuff is.

Also, I'm finding the longer I work on something that's supposed to be funny, the less funny it seems. Applies to drama, too. I can barely remember why I was so gung-ho about my poor XII project - I can't "see" the video anymore, which probably means it's almost impossible for me to make.
  • *sigh* Today is a crazy day 2008-07-28 15:17:37 Sometimes …well, you just find stuff that makes you go WHAT?? when you Google yourself.

“'Bustin by Drift Root got Staff Favorite and Judges Favorite. And i was SHOCKED that DriftRoot was a girl. I admire her now.”

I could start ranting and raving about reverse discrimination...but I won't. I’d just like to know what, exactly, is so shocking about a girl making that AMV? I don't consider myself working with some kind of handicap, here. One would think the fact that it's my second AMV would be far, far more shocking and deserving of admiration - you know, since it's actually something I had control over vs. a fluke of genetics.

    Yes, it's shocking, I know. I'M A GIRL!!
  • Logo finalists are UP 2008-07-28 08:03:15 So the logo I thought would never make the finals...made the finals...and the logo I thought was going to win...DIDN'T make the finals.

Obviously I am a terrible judge of not only logos, but the mentality of people on this site. Not sure yet what I mean by that last part.
  • ...however, it's high time I DID complain about Vista 2008-07-27 21:16:46 Which caused me to spend *checks clock* exactly 16 hours rescuing my computer from as close to total FUBAR state as can be achieved without going totally FUBAR. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth to say I got lucky and "only" had to reinstall my OS (rather than reformat my entire HD), but the fact is it could have been worse. I still don't know what the heck went wrong...one minute I was sailing along nicely in Vista land, the next it had no idea what a modem was, or anything to do with a network connection, not to mention some severe DOS-level failures.

You know you're in trouble when your OS can't boot up, but insists it can, even though it just got done failing miserably.

I guess one could say I "only" had to spend 16 hours fixing whatever the heck was wrong, and nine of those hours were spent downloading over a year's worth of Vista updates, some of which still refuse to download (aka SP1). Meanwhile, I was forced to babysit a recalcitrant 56K modem and play KHII all day, while it was really nice outside There must be more to life than this. What's worse, there still could be something wrong, I just don't know it yet.

This is all directly related to Thief III, because after I installed it things went haywire. If I play the game again, it will be on my old PC, which is actually better equipped to handle that game than my new one. Apparently no one's figured out a sure-fire way to get Vista to run that game.

Let this be further proof of the roadbloacks I face in making AMVs. This is why it takes me so long. And yet, this is nothing. This is routine. That's pretty sad, when near HD FUBAR doesn't even cause me to twitch. I grumbled, but I didn't twitch.

I did, however, spend a good deal of time today drinking pina coladas. *grin* Looks like it's time for a refill, too.
  • I haven't complained about Vista in awhile, however... 2008-07-26 17:55:46 Having reinvigorated my latent Thief fangirlness, I decided to *haha* install Thief 3 on my new computer (aka Vista) today. I never actually finished that game because I was so disappointed/disgusted with how it was designed, but when I get sentimental...I get REALLY sentimental and give things a second chance. The odds of Thief I or II installing on Vista are much less than Thief III, thought I, and I played both those games multiple times anyways, so in T3 went.

Turns out that's the worst possible thing I could do. I've spent over four hours trying to get the game to load, with 100% fail every time. Currently there is no known way to run this game on my OS, and I'm eyeing my old computer with increased longing, tossing around the idea of installing T3 on it just to give Microsoft the proverbial finger. If I had more room left on my new computer drive, I'd partition it and let XP run amok...if I had something better than dial-up. Downloading years and years of OS updates via a 56k is laughable.

    *bludgeons Vista*

This has to do with AMVs because I wanted to rip some music from the game for an AMV, but now I'm all distracted and stuff. *sniff*

That was my impression of a female Robert Jordan character.
