JOURNAL: CrackTheSky (Ben S)

  • 2006-09-30 21:31:09 I'm going to stop editing a moment to vent my frustration at the progress of my current AMV. The first problem I have is that the video quality is pretty bad. I ripped it straight from my DVD, but I think I encoded it differently than I did my previous video (using Lagarith instead of HuffYUV), so maybe that has something to do with it. It's going to have to go through at least one sharpening filter in VirtualDubMod before all is said and done. That should help, at the very least.

I've been masking a part of my video that lasts about half a second for a total of eight hours now. That's not my complaint; my complaint is that Vegas has crashed during my masking at least ten times now...nothing huge, thanks to its restore feature, but a nuisance nonetheless. I think it's because there are so many paths in my masks and I keep adding more...in retrospect I probably could have done that a little better, but it's too late to do it now.

My third ocmplaint is, after all this masking was completed and I rendered that part of my video to see how it looked, besides the crappy quality lines beneath my masks flicker through while I'm watching the video! >:O It's nothing major, and I don't think I can change it, but it's annoying because I spent 8+ hours working on this mask to have it come out shitty.

    God, I'm frustrated.

In other news, I'm backed up on ideas for AMVs, which is a good and bad thing. It's good because it means I don't have to go through one of those frustrating "writer's block" periods, but it's bad because I want to start making these other AMVs right now. I could do that, but I like to go one at a time. Besides, this one's coming along pretty well except for some of the more technical details.

I've been working on my current project for about five days now, I'm only just over a third of the way through it. I've been masking like a mofo, and that takes a long, long time. It should be done within the next two weeks...that's a conservative estimate, though; between my homework, classes, sleep, and girlfriend, I'm lucky to get two hours of editing in a day. Plus I have no deadline this time so there's less urgency to get this one up. It's a nice feeling ^_^

And, to end, I'll find out the results of how well "Amnesia In Comfort" did in the Left Hand Productions amateur AMV contest. I'm kinda excited!

  • FLCL 2006-09-25 00:45:58 I've decided (and kikai, this has nothing to do with what you've said; as a matter of fact, I've thought this for a while) that FLCL is pretty much the perfect anime for beginners. Whatever kind of AMV you want to make, it's possible with FLCL. The way the anime plays out is both silly and serious, and there's tons of action to boot. Anything works. Plus, it's only six episodes, conserving hard drive space. For beginning AMV-makers there's really nothing better.

The downside to this is that since there are only six episodes, it limits pretty much any kind of originality. Everything has already been done with FLCL; I'd like to see someone make something totally original using it anymore.

But it's fun to use, I'll admit.

    That's really all.
  • Alrighty then 2006-09-22 17:42:18 Well, this is my first journal entry. And maybe tonight I'll start ripping the next nine episodes from my second RahXephon disc so I can start my third AMV this weekend. I've got a pretty solid idea, and I'm excited to get started. So yay. Hopefully it'll be up within the next two weeks, but I plan on spending much more time on this one than my last two, so it'll probably take longer than that.

I don't know how often I'll use this journal...I have a MySpace for blogging, so this may be rather secondary and utilized only for AMV-related updates.

    You don't care.

    So bye for now.
