JOURNAL: CrackTheSky (Ben S)

  • Party 2006-12-06 18:59:19 Oh wow, it's like all my favorite people on the .org posted journals RIGHT IN A ROW.

    w00t.

And aerialesque, there definitely are bars on the sides of your video. Black ones. Dunno why :/ It doesn't really matter. The video still looks spectacular ;)

    I'm out yo.

  • I hate this machine 2006-12-06 02:52:57 GodDAMN this fucking COMPUTER. It's doing that thing again where it just shuts down randomy for no apparent reason, although I'm relatively sure it's an issue with my power supply...not enough juice perhaps? I don't know.

It's really weird though. Because it shuts down, without fail, every single time I play Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (remember Alpha Centauri?). Now, this game was made in like, 1999. It's a turn-based strategy game along the lines of Civilization. Takes absolutnely no horsepower at all. But I have yet to legitimately quit out of the game since I started playing it last night. And there's no predicting WHEN the computer will shut down. Sometimes it'll let me play for half an hour, sometimes two minutes.

The dumbest part about all this is that when I play games that are more hardware-intensive, like Counter-Strike or Call of Duty 2, nothing happens. I play these games fine, but when I want to play a simple, old, turn-based strategy game, the computer can't keep up. It's so stupid.

I had this problem over a month ago, and then the problem just stopped. It just started happening again, last night, when I started playing SMAC again (and by again, I don't mean I was playing SMAC when I had this problem earlier). Ugh. It's so frustrating. At least it only takes my computer like a minute to start up, so it's slightly more bearable. And SMAC has an autosave feature at the end of every turn, but still...it makes playing the game really difficult, and REALLY aggravating. And I REALLY want to play it.

    Fucking machine.

    *Sigh*

Now to op aeriaesque's video Pale Light before watching an episode or two of Eureka Seven and going to bed...

  • Mediocrity 2006-12-05 23:28:59 Haha Yeiweh, I was thinking the same thing ;) Sorry, I didn't want to interrupt...er...well, nevermind.

I just haven't had a lot to say lately. Most of the stuff I say here relates to AMVs, and I'm not working on any projects currently. Did you know I put a new AMV out Yeiweh? I like it a lot. According to my star ratings though, it's not my best :/

You know, I've realized something lately. Everything I've ever done throughout my life has been average. In school I was never particularly smart. I mean, I could understand what was being taught to me, but I've never been able to expand on it. There have always been people smarter than me, and lots of people dumber than me.

Never been good at video games. I mean, I'm okay at most video games, but I always have at least one friend that kick my ass if we play against each other or collect more stuff throughout their quest if it's an RPG or get a higher score...but there are always people that I can beat, too.

When it comes to either of my jobs, there are coworkers that simply do the same job I do, only more efficiently, but I'm still not the most useless person there.

Photography? I bought myself an expensive digital camera, because I'd always wanted to. My friend who's big into photography also kind of inspired me, and once I got it I took a ton of "artsy" pictures that I'm relatively proud of, but then I see my friend's work and it's just so much better that ever since I got to school I've barely touched my camera at all.

Music knowledge/number of CDs I own? Same deal. Although I'm probably closer to the upper tier in that area than any of the others. Athletics? I'm actually pretty terrible at that, but I don't care. That doesn't interest me.

AMVs? Well, that's not really for me to decide. From the responses I've gotten to the AMVs I've put out, I've gathered that I'm maybe an above-average editor, but I certainly think most of that is undeserved. I'm being a little hard on myself, considering I've only been a serious editor for about three months now, but it's just an extension of a pattern that's been plaguing me all of my life.

Now, I can't say I'm really complaining about any of this, because I know that not being good at all of these things is all my fault. I don't have the commitment level to really get especially good at anything. My interests change so rapidly that when I start to really apply myself to an activity, I begin to like something else and my attention shifts. I don't think this will be an issue for AMVs, because I've liked AMVs ever since I saw them and three months is a long time for me to be this committed/obsessed with anything. It hasn't dwindled at all, either, which is a good sign.

That's probably why I'm changing my major to physics. It's going to be incredibly difficult, because I've never been any good at math at all, but I want to be an astronomer so badly that I'm pretty sure I'm willing to study my heart out to achieve it. I've always liked space...ever since I was a kid. And I've been reading sci-fi and thinking about the stars for almost a year straight now, and my interest level has only increased.

Well...I don't know where I was going with this entry. I've been meaning to write it for some time now, but I didn't expect it to end up with astronomy. Oh well. That's the dynamism of my writing for you.

Anyway, just so Yeiweh feels better, I'll mention her again: Yeiweh. There. Even though I know she only read the beginning and end of this entry (because those are the only places I mentioned her name :P) she can rest easy.

    So, yeah. Later folks.

  • Gooooo Greggus 2006-12-05 14:33:13 Greggus1 = good journal entry. I like that. I've been thinking along the same lines as you about the hierarchy here. According to your list, I think I'd probably fall under..."mascot" or "hard-working newbie". Definitely more the latter. But yeah, you hit just about every category on here.

Just wanted to say that. Maybe I'll have something more significant to say later.

    But most likely not.
