Okay, so, basically ACen was the pinnacle of my existence. Or, at least, my existence as an AMV editor. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life, and probably the best weekend I can remember.
My friend Jon and I got there late Friday night - like around 7:15ish at night, and we were the last people in the registration line - they literally stopped people from coming in line behind us. So we got extrememly lucky there, although it was a nice 2-hour wait to get our badges and everything all squared away, and in line we met a group of four /b/-tards who were dirdcly in front of us, which led to some interesting conversations.
After we got in we walked around the hotel looking for the AMV room, and it took us about half an hour to find it. So we caught the second half of the contest, which was definitely the weaker half, although there was some good stuff in there anyway. They showed my video, and lthough it was a cool feeling to see my video on the big screen, I realized how much I hate the thing and how much I really wish I had made something else for the con. But oh well, I'm glad I entered something.
When the contest was over I went up to Koop's room and met the crowd - a bunch of RDS people, as well as trythil, Moonie, kisanzi, Valion, jade_eyed_angel...I don't remember who all I met in the room specifically that night, but it was cool. We played a game of Poker (which I lost at badly) and it was just a blast.
Then I left and drove home for the night because I live like half an hour away and paying for parking was cheaper than paying for a hotel room. I came back early the next morning around 11:00 to catch the whole AMV contest. The first half was much better, I saw a lot of really fun videos and seeing Skittles on the big screen is really something else. After the contest was over I stayed in the AMV room to watch Koop and AtomX's panel where they showed some of their favorite "unknown" AMVs, which was a fun time. And Koop had four people come up and eat as many Skittles as they could out of a half-pund bag each while his video played. Kit shoulda won (:>)
ZephyStar and trythil had their panel next about 3D design, which I found rather interesting, although it was rather confusing. It was fun to see the "behind-the-scenes" stuff for trythil's video with a ridiculously complicated German title and ZS's video Daydream. After that a bunch of us went out for pizza and I met Kalium and TsunamiJones. TJ paid for our dinner which was incredibly awesome of him.
Oh yeah. After the initial AMV contest I finally, FINALLY got to meet Reigna, which rocked hard.
Anyway.
Then we came back and watched Pwolf and Nessie go at it in the Iron Editor match, which was a hell of a lotta fun...
Then hotel room parties again.
And Sunday was not nearly as interesting as Saturday was, though I still had a blast. We saw the awards ceremony and went to the dealer's room...and then I had to leave because I was extremely tired and didn't want to risk getting lost on my way home by going with the rest of the group to some Japanese market thing.
But yeah. It was by far the best weekend of my life, almost entirely because I got to meet and hang out with so many cool people that I've been dying to meet for a while now. Definitely worth the money and the lack of sleep, and I absolutely cannot WAIT to do this all over again. You guys totally made my summer, thank you so much!
