JOURNAL: Arigatomina

  • new amv 2003-08-30 07:17:13 Heh, it's nice to hear the deadline for yaoicon has been extended. I did get my ccs vid done in time, but my other one is being a bugger - I still can't figure out why my movie maker won't read my jpgs. I can't actually submit anything to the con, but there's a nice drive at trying to get the vids done by a deadline. And since it means more vids in the next month, that's a great thing. But I'm really liking the new one. That vhd vid is officially sidestepped, in a nicely marked case of cds. I doubt I'll get a chance to finish it, but it'll be there if I do.

In the meantime I'm doing another of those multi anime yaoi vids that I like so much. There are a lot less anime characters used in this one (8) than 'In your arms,' or 'because the night,' but I don't think it hurts anything. And the combination of Angel Sanctuary, Cardcaptor Sakura, Rurouni Kenshin, and Yu Yu Hakusho is *still* one I haven't seen done by anyone else (except maybe 'suichi's question'), but then, there's probably a reason no one does it. ^_^; I must say YYH characters don't sit well next to AS, but I don't really care that much. I need the yyh and rk for the dj scans and added pics - for some reason there just aren't any for ccs, and the two I have for AS look lonely all by themselves.

So far I have the outline of the vid and most of the clips arranged, so it's just a matter of fixing the stupid production so it doesn't block my pics. I think cutting the scenes in Showbiz and laying fresh pics (the same pics) over the timeline might fix that problem. I'm sure it comes from the extra compression to turn the jpgs into avi so they'll be read. If I replace the scenes in Showbiz I can keep it to once-compressed jpg, which should do the trick. If not, I may just go ahead and send it out as mpg or wmv. I mean, few people will want to watch it anyway, and so long as the quality is good I don't care that much about file type. I just don't want more blocky sections in my pics. >.< It ruins all the work I put in editing them.

Yeah, I figure if I play by the new extended deadline I can tweak things for a couple more days before calling it 'finished.' Barring incidents, I may even get the thing done before Monday. ^_^ I can't wait to watch it.

I have *never* seen yaoi dj covers (or pics) used in an amv, but it's allowed - and what better way to make a shonen ai vid to a supposedly 'non-yaoi' anime than by adding in pics of the characters together? I just wish I could find that cd with my yyh scans. Without my scanner I'm stuck using what I've already put up on my site - plenty of RK pics, but *none* of my favorite yyh ones. It rather sucks.

    So I'm just lazing around before I pass out. At this stage I can't risk working on the vid while I'm half asleep, so I have nothing better to do this early in the morning. I'm still stuck on that ccs fic idea, but I don't really want to write it. If I start that there won't be much hope of finishing the vid any time soon. And if nothing else, I have to finish it in the next week. Otherwise I'll end up scrapping the incomplete vid to cd and starting a new one. I swear, my short attention span will be the death of me yet. ^_^;

Ah, about the vid, it's set to Kylie Minogue's 'Love at First Sight' (yes, I know this is already listed in the database, I've played with the idea through 4 vid drafts before settling on this one). The pairings are Kira/Setsuna, Touya/Yue-Yukito, Sano/Kenshin, and Kurama/Hiei - I toyed with the idea of using Rosiel/Katan instead, but it was a little too abusive for my tastes - if I wanted that I'd have thrown in Miraki/Tsuzuki or Cain/Shido. I like the vid so far, but I haven't actually previewed it (can't do that in my movie maker) - that'll have to wait until I get the timeline into Showbiz and start editing those pics for the final production.

I have my fingers crossed that I won't scrap the idea again before producing it. I've done too many variations to this song - if I drop the vid one more time I'm going to give up on the song completely. ~_~;; I don't have the will to start from scratch again.
  • Card Captor Sakura 2003-08-25 19:40:44 I refuse to put off my vhd vid (since it's really turning out so very strange and fun), but oh! I adore CCS! I had no idea it was so horribly cute! ^_^; Of course, I got the series for Yue/Yukito and Touya - and then the second season with Clow Reed, but just watching her when she's around Yuki is so dang adorable. I liked the epsodes I managed to catch on television (about 3 epsiodes), and the two dvds I bought a while back where cute. But this is the first time I've gotten to see it from the beginning. I swear, if I'm not careful I'll be getting all sorts of ideas for this. Tomoyo even cracks me up. I can't wait till Li gets there.

Yeah, just watching anime. My vid can wait a day or two, surely. ^_^ I haven't watched anime in a long time.
  • vids... 2003-08-25 05:49:35 I'm not sure I'll finish my RK vid, but my Vampire Hunter D vid is looking promising. And no - I don't mean 'Bloodlust' - I'm talking about the original movie. No one uses that anymore... ~_~

Any, the song is 'Comanchero' by Raggio Di Luna - and I'll be quite surprised if I find that someone's already used it. Quite frankly I find it an odd song, but rather fitting. We'll see if it turns out well enough to deem 'finished' or gets deleted before the final export. ^_^

"Oh, can you see he is the one
Day after day he is riding in the sun
He's travelling through deserts all alone."

Nice fot the wanderer spirit, and then there's those pretty choruses, and though I won't have anyone bringing him a tomahawk (^_^;; ), the feeling works well for some of the more upbeat scenes from the movie. It's almost like black and white - and I really like the way the beats during the 'comanchero' sections sound like some old game music, with an actiony feel but still rather odd - it fits the fight scenes from vhd quite nicely.

I know - no one wants to see the original movie now that the prettified 'bloodlust' is out, but you know what? It was one of the first anime I ever saw, and I still like it. ^_^ Besides, it's looking like a fun vid. If it makes it through it'll be a nice addition to my collection - definitely another change in directions. And who knows, if it turns out well I just may go back to my RK/Police vid - I still want to do that idea.

  • early retirement 2003-08-24 23:21:20 Well, now that I look at things, I really spend too much time reviewing vids. I mean, I have the next 3 weeks free, maybe 2 or 3 weeks after that, and then it's over. So the way I see it I can count on 1.5 more months of making amvs and then I won't have time anymore. It's very depressing. I haven't finished more than 2 of my original long-term vids, and I never got a chance to figure out Premiere (it's far too late to even try at this point). The worst thing is that I've finally ordered the first two seasons of Card Captor Sakura - and by the time it gets here I may not be able to do anything with it. Yeah, I'm thoroughly depressed.

But the highlight is that I've already accomplished one of my meager goals - I got runner up in the YYH vid contest. ^_^ All I ever wanted was to do something to add to the fandom, the rest was for my readers, a few friends, and myself. Still, I'm going to have to think up something really nice to put in my profile when the time comes. Some sort of list of the vids that never got finished may be in order - I don't think I'll ever figure out how to make my RK/YYH vid work, so it'll be on there for sure. Heh, I've been working on that since 3 weeks after I started making vids (though I had to rerip the footage - the dj scans are all sized and ready to go). I may just break down and send it out as is, though, since I seriously doubt anyone else would do the vid for me. Hell, I seriously doubt anyone else would want to watch it (aside from my readers and a few shonen ai fans).

Yeah, I got a nice set of reviews from Paulo and it got me to thinking - I have a lot of amvs. And despite that, I only have about 1/5 of the ones I want to see made - the others may never get done. Also, you're supposed to spend months on amvs - no one wants to see your vids if you churn them out too quickly. Right. I feel like I've been to the doctor and he just told me I have two months to live. This is always the way I feel when I leave a fandom. I remember I felt the same way when I gave up Gundam Wing fanfiction with only 40 finished fics - all those ideas I started that will most likely never be completed unless someone steals them and does it for me.

Anyway, I'm glad I managed to get good capture this early. I was half afraid I wouldn't be able to do xvid or divx. Then again, once I'm not frequenting anymore I won't be around to send people the proper codecs. I'll have to put links in my descriptions. I did try mpg for my latest vid, but man...after divx it's *really* hard to go back to mpg1 - and Showbiz is the king of gloss and oversized files. I thought about using wmm 1.0 for export and converting it that way to mpg, but the footage gets stretched in windows media player - I'd have to add those dumb warnings again telling people to use winamp3 if the footage looks too long. Still, I may end up doing that for a few vids. I'd try to get hosting for separate files, but I doubt I'll remember to make steady payments, so it's a bad idea. I'm just glad Phade hasn't put a limit on the number of vids you can put up within a certain period of time.

The way I see it, the istiv group has nearly 100 vids up, with many more than that listed. I would love to have 100 vids in my complete collection (if I ever redo that Alanis vid I have sitting on my computer - I'm almost disappointed that no one ever asked what happened to vid number 9...it's only available on my site...)

Then again, the good editors average 10 vids in their entire career. The fact that I want more stories is just more proof that I'm doing things wrong. But really, no one else will *ever* do the vids I really want to see. The yyh action vids - maybe, but by the time someone does them I'll be too busy to go searching for amvs so it won't do me any good. The other yyh vids tend to be shonen ai or just odd songs to my very strange collection of music - not likely to be duplicated by the average vid creator.

It reminds me of what Omni said in that 'diss sucky anime' thread - 'you must hate a lot of anime' - and it's really true. Not that I hate everything in them, but my tastes are so twisted compared to the norm that I can watch every vid in the top 10 list and only enjoy 2 of them. And no, I'm not including Euphoria or any of the other well-known and loved vids. So far the only two I've actually enjoyed watching and have kept (and will burn to cd eventually) are 'Chibi Things' and 'Elvis versus Anime'. I liked some of the others, and I may keep them permanently, but so far those two are the only ones I've rewatched. I know Castor's 'Bebop Z' is going on cd, but I haven't watched it since I first reviewed it. I just don't get the urge to watch flashy or funny vids that often. And I don't like depressing vids unless I know the characters. And romance? Yeah, no need to explain that - thanks but no. Drama? Boring if I don't know the characters - and most stories for anime I *do* know don't show the things I want to see in a vid. I don't hate amvs, but there are very very few that I can say I trully love to watch. And egotistical or not - most of those few are my own.

I think it's natural. I'm stubborn, and I get the most pleasure out of my own stories. It was the same with fanfiction - few people showed what I wanted to read. Yes, I'll enjoy a pretty vid now and then, and it's fun to watch a well done action vid. But few hold my attention after I've watched it. Blame my short attention span and bad memory, or blame my selfish nature. I'm not satisfied unless it's what *I* want to see - and I see no reason to watch something I don't love to watch - so while people praise the best made videos, I'm sitting here rewatching Mindbug's 'Go Fortuna' for the 30th time thinking that there's something really odd about my tastes. And there is - I'm unusual. I always will be.

Yeah, I've really ranted a lot, but I needed something to do while I waited, and this is much easier than my online journal - I don't even have to leave the site. I plan to keep spending as much time here as I can in between vids. ^_^ I think I'm really starting to like this place. And that's rather sad when I think about it. When I joined I hated the forum, and most of the people whose posts I had read and was insulted by. Now I see something by Sarah or Fyrt and grin about it. Odd how things change..really..
  • Omni...lol 2003-08-24 04:13:15 Heh, he hasn't checked the stats lately, I guess.

Bragging about being the 'most opinionated' (in caps)...I'm about 40 behind, have been here a few months and have a higher usefulness (though not really as useful since I'm not a pro ^_~ ) so I'd say...the title may not last very long.

    ^_^

I give it a month at best unless he gets on the ball - good thing he's giving free ops again.
